Applications are now open for the 2025 D-Prize Challenge. The D-Prize award startup grants of up to $20,000 to entrepreneurs launching new organizations. We believe the world needs more social impact organizations, and we seed for-profit ventures, NGOs, and charities. We support organizations in any low-or-middle income country where extreme poverty still exists.

ELigbility Requirements

  • D-Prize is for new organizations. Most of our awardees are first-time entrepreneurs. Most have not yet launched their organization, nor have they raised other funding. We especially encourage those from low-and-middle income countries to apply

  • The Global Competition launches on 2 September 2024
  • Early Submission Deadline: 13 October 2024 at midnight PT (Pacific Time) 
  • Regular Submission Deadline: 3 November 2024 at midnight PT (Pacific Time) 
  • Extension Deadline: 24 November 2024 at midnight PT (Pacific Time)

D-Prize Challenge 2023/2024 for Social Entrepreneurs to fight Poverty ($USD 20,000)

D-Prize seeds new ventures that distribute proven poverty interventions.

The world has already invented products and services to end poverty. Yet we have found many proven interventions with large delivery gaps. Millions of people still don’t have access to basic poverty-fighting tools.

Can you design a new business or NGO that delivers a proven poverty intervention at scale? Submit your design for a new organization that solves one of our Distribution Challenges below. We will award the most promising teams with up to $20,000 USD to launch their new organization wherever extreme poverty exists.

ELIGIBILITY

  • D-Prize is for aspiring entrepreneurs from anywhere in the world, of any age, and any background. The majority of our awardees have not launched nor raised any funding.
  • D-Prize will consider funding existing organizations only if you are distributing an existing intervention and you have a need for high-risk capital that cannot be supported by your current donors or revenue.
  • Existing organizations applying to D-Prize should have operated for no more than 18 months and raised no more than $30,000 in outside funding.

D-Prize challenge 2013 (USD 20,000 to fight Poverty)

D-Prize is a call to the world’s brightest social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs. Submit your idea to start a new distribution initiative in one of the challenge areas below. If selected, YOU will be awarded  $10,000-$20,000 to pilot your idea over a three-month trial period, and connect you with mentorship from already successful social entrepreneurs. D-Prize will fund a total of 5-15 social entrepreneurs. If your pilot is successful, we will help you to launch your work and attract significant support.

D-Prize is dedicated toward expanding access to poverty-alleviation solutions in the developing world. Many solutions to poverty already exist; the challenge is distributing these solutions to the people who need it most. We tackle this by challenging social entrepreneurs to develop better ways to distribute proven life-enhancing technologies, and funding early-stage startups that deliver the best results.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • D-Prize challenges are open to anyone or any teams who submits an application. The sole  restriction is that individuals or their immediate family who serve or have served on the  independent judging panel may not participate as a contestant.
  • D-Prize is also open to any business model. All winners will be awarded between $10,000 and  $20,000 in the form of a convertible grant.
  • Between 5 and 15 of the most promising contestants will be selected for awards in 2013, regardless of which challenge track was selected. This means the number of ventures funded  may differ between challenges.
