The Future Awards Africa 2017 ‘Nigeria’s New Tribe’ campaign for young people.

The Future Awards Africa, also popularly known as The Future Awards, are a set of awards given by The Future Project (TFP), a social enterprise set up with a strong, practical commitment to human and capital development, especially in Africa. The Future Project is the largest home-grown network of policy-makers, business people, and other stakeholders in Young Africa.

It is also committed to finding effective and innovative ways of addressing social issues. It has become one of the most respected private sector-driven development platforms with a history of verifiable impact, including in under-privileged and grassroots communities.

The awards celebrate young people between the ages of 18 and 31, who have made outstanding achievement in the year under consideration. Forbes has described the awards as “Most important awards for outstanding young Africans”. The awards, organized for young Nigerians below the age of 30, was conceived by Chude Jideonwo and Adebola Williams in 2004. The first The Future Awards ceremony was held on February 6, 2006 at the Muson Centre in Lagos to honour the outstanding achievements of the 2005/2006 season.

Themed ‘Nigeria’s New Tribe’, this year’s edition seeks to acknowledge inspiring young people making a difference through social enterprise, social good, and innovation. Beyond tribal lines, tunic differences and religious affiliations, they are united by the possibilities of their talent, commitment to hardwork and driven by achievement in impacting the economy, society and rewriting the African narrative.

In the last twelve years, the Awards have been a catalyst towards building a new tribe of citizens who are bound by their potentials, relentless hard work and united by their soaring achievements.

With the first franchise set to be unveiled in Ghana, the awards will find young
Africans who understand that the future can only be shaped by ideas and secured by action that seeks to elevate and unify, placing The Future Awards Africa as the ultimate soapbox for their unconventional points of view.

Requirements

Understanding the true value of these innovators, the public can nominate unorthodox persons, community advocates, creators and pioneers from their communities between the ages of 18 – 31 in 21 categories ranging from social activism and business, to media and entertainment.
Persons eligible for nomination must have made considerable impact within Nigeria and/or globally within the last year and must have easily accessible documenting of their achievements.

Nigeria’s development sector is beaming brightly as practitioners prepare to meet, engage,share ideas and deepen perspectives on the defining role of the social sector in Africa’s development at the forthcoming Development Dialogue holding 9 a.m. on Thursday, 30th March 2017 in Lagos.

The Dialogue, hosted by Ideation Hub Africa, is Nigeria’s leading thought-leadership Conference for development practitioners, social innovators, social entrepreneurs and NGO
leaders. It provides a rallying point for thinkers, doers and changemakers who envision a
better future for Africa, and are working actively for social good.

The FREE Morning Conference will feature Keynote Speeches, Social Innovation Workshops, the BigWhy Project, Networking Hub, Exhibitions etc. to promote insightful discourse around the State of the Development Sector, and how changemakers can create more purposeful work for Africa’s future!

In the afternoon, delegates will move to an Exclusive Executive Roundtable for forward thinking and entrepreneurial change-makers, to sit with industry leaders, as we focus on the Enterprise Side of Social, covering social enterprise models, how to profit with purpose, alternative fundraising strategies and telling their innovation story.

First Mandela Washington Fellowship Conference Reunites Fellows in Accra, Ghana.

Washington — Over 150 young leaders from 21 West African countries will gather in Accra, Ghana next week to share their expertise and engage on issues they have defined as critical for the future of Africa. In support of President Barack Obama’s Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), USAID and IREX are organizing the 1st Annual West Africa Regional Conference for Mandela Washington Fellows in Accra from April 26-28, 2015.

The Fellows include tech and social entrepreneurs, public servants, human rights activists, lawyers, doctors and youth activists who are bringing changes to their home countries and communities with support from USAID and IREX. In addition to this impressive group of Fellows, the conference will bring together leaders from the private sector, the U.S. Government, and international and local organizations.

The conference will highlight issues and ideas for promoting entrepreneurship, growth sectors, inclusive development, energy, women in technology, and philanthropy in Africa.

Event speakers include

Deputy Minister of Education in Ghana, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa;
Founder of the Future Africa Project, Chude Jideonwo;
CEO of the African Women’s Development Fund, Theo Sowa;
U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, Gene A. Cretz; and
The Tony Elumelu Foundation.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship brings 500 young African professionals from across the continent to U.S. universities for six weeks of leadership training in the areas of business and entrepreneurship, civic leadership, or public management. Competitively selected for this prestigious flagship program, the Fellows represent the continent’s emerging generation of business CEO’s, community leaders, and public officials.

The West African Fellows include participants from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Cote D’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, São Tome and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

USAID and IREX support Mandela Washington Fellows with continuing professional development opportunities in Africa. This is done with coordination support from the West Africa Civil Society Institute based in Accra, Ghana.
