World Water Council Youth Delegates Program for 2016-2018 (Fully Funded to 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia, Brazil)

The World Water Council is pleased to announce the launch of the Youth Delegates Program for 2016-2018.

The time has come to recognize the role youth can play in impacting policy dialogues at local and global scales. The World Water Council is committed to strengthen the role of youth for water security, adaptation, and sustainability.

Individuals between 18 and 35 years of age representing organizations involved in water and Youth development activities are invited to apply.  Those interested are invited to consider the eligibility criteria and complete the application survey.  Four delegates from different world regions who can demonstrate strong regional experience and networks will be selected. One of the candidates will be selected from the 8th World Water Forum host country – Brazil.

Candidates selected following a competitive selection process will have the opportunity to engage in the World Water Council’s Task Forces, connect Youth to the 8th World Water Forum process, and other activities.

Eligibility

  1. You are between the ages of 18 and 35 years old
  2. You are a member of an internationally oriented organization demonstrating interest for water and youth
  3. You have demonstrated leadership in promoting action on water issues in your organization/communities
  4. You have experience and/or interest in speaking/advocating
  5. You have a strong command of the English language
  6. You are familiar with the mission and goals of the World Water Council.
  7. You are willing and available to participate in the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia and to support the work of the World Water Council.

Responsibilities for the Youth Delegates will include engagement in the Board of Governors’ Task Forces, connecting Youth to the 8th World Water Forum process, Involvement in the Council’s public communication, proposing concrete actions to complement the work of the World Water Council tasks forces and working groups, and other activities as designed in collaboration with the Council Secretariat and the Youth Delegate Liaison.

  2. Interviews:  1st week of November
  3. Final selection:  3rd week of November

UNESCO Global Media & Information Literacy Awards 2016 (Funded to São Paulo, Brazil.)

The GAPMIL Global MIL Awards will recognize information/library, media and technology specialists, educators, artists, activists, researchers, policy makers, NGOs, associations and other groups integrating MIL (media and information literacy) in an innovative way in their work and related activities. Specifically, the awards will recognize excellence and leadership in five sectors: Education, Research, Policy, Activism, Media and communication/information industries.

For 2016, the Global MIL Awards are led by the Global Alliance for Partnership on Media and Information Literacy (GAPMIL) and the Media and Information Literacy and Intercultural Dialogue University Network (MILID) with the support of UNESCO, UNAOC, the School of Communication and Arts at the University of São Paulo, and the Youth Portal at the São Paulo Prefecture´s Secretary of Human Rights and Citizenship.

Awards Criteria

  • Work in any area/sector can be recognized, as long as the activities reflect integration of media and information literacy concepts, including intercultural dialogue, in education, research, policy, activism and the communication and information industries (including cultural industries).
  • Nominations should describe how the nominee’s work and activities impact specific groups or society at large.
  • Nominations should describe how the nominee’s practices do influence or could influence the media and Information Literacy field at large, in a local or global context
  • Nominations should provide links to pictures, video clips or testimonials and any other published content (if appropriate) produced by the nominee.
  • Formal and non-formal approaches are welcome in the information/library media, communication and education sectors, and in relevant practices in each subject.

  • Winners will be invited to the General Assembly of the GAPMIL at the University of São Paulo, Brazil, taking place from November, 2nd -6th, or connected to the event via remote online, live participation

ICFJ Fellowships for Journalists Covering Road Safety ( Fully Funded to attend the 2nd Global High Level Conference on Road Safety in Brasilia, Brazil)

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), traffic crashes kill more than 1.24 million people and injure between 20 and 50 million a year, with more than 90 percent of these casualties occurring in developing countries.

To help improve coverage of this global public health crisis, the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) with the support of the World Health Organization (WHO) invites journalists to apply for the “Journalists’ Fellowship on Road Safety.”

What:

  • ICFJ will select 15 journalists from around the world to attend the 2nd Global High-Level Conference on Road Safety hosted by the government of Brazil and co-sponsored by the World Health Organization.
  • The conference, held in Brasilia, Brazil, from November 17-19, 2015, seeks to share knowledge and spur action on what works to prevent traffic-related fatalities and injuries and improve safety on the roads for all who use them.
  • With WHO’s support, the program will cover all Fellowship-related costs including travel to the conference, accommodations and registration.

Requirements:

Journalists who apply for the Fellowship and Training Program on Road Safety must be fluent in English. Applicants will be asked to provide the following:

• A 500-word essay detailing their motivation and goals for seeking the fellowship;
• A story idea for a road-safety reporting project that may focus on their own country and incorporates the use of digital tools and/or data as well as ways to use these tools and social media to engage audiences in a dialogue about these vital safety issues;
• A letter endorsing the journalist’s participation from an editor or newsroom manager to demonstrate understanding of the fellowship’s value and support for publishing or broadcasting the journalist’s coverage of the conference and story project;
• A resume or curriculum vitae;
• Published/posted/broadcast work samples.

Selection will be based on the journalists’ professional qualifications, relevant experience such as demonstrated interest in the topic of road safety, English-language proficiency, and endorsement by a newsroom manager.
