BeyGOOD Global Citizen Fellowship Program 2022 for young Africans

Over the last four years, Global Citizen and BeyGOOD have been helping to enrich young lives through the Africa-based fellowship program. The Global Citizen Fellowship Program is funded by Tyler Perry through BeyGOOD. BeyGOOD, a division of Parkwood Entertainment, is a Global Citizen partner

Launched in 2019, following the success of commitments made at the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 in December 2018, the fellowship is focused on Global Citizen’s vision of eliminating extreme poverty through providing young people with opportunities to gain experience working on social impact projects.

For this year’s fellowship program, Global Citizen will be accepting five fellows from each country to be part of the year-long experience. Each will be provided with the skills and resources needed to help them secure work beyond their time with Global Citizen. 

Requirements:

  • If you’re based in Kenya, South Africa, or Nigeria and you’re between the ages of 21 and 25 with a matric or secondary school certificate, you can apply to be part of the fellowship.

Selection Criteria

  • The program will be running from July 19, 2022, until June 30, 2023.
  • Applicants must be able to house themselves in Johannesburg or Lagos for the duration of the program.
  • Kenyan applicants can be based anywhere in the country, and will participate virtually.

How to Apply

Send us a two- to three-minute video answering the following questions: 

  • What qualities do you identify with as an active citizen of the world? 
  • If selected, what lasting change would you like to achieve through the program?
  • What specific socio-economic issues are you taking action on, and why? 

If you prefer writing, you can send us a 500- to 700-word essay answering the same questions.

BeyGOOD Global Citizen Fellowship Program 2021 for young Africans (Fully Funded)

Powered by BeyGOOD, the Global Citizen Fellowship Program will unearth African youth with remarkable potential. Through the program, 15 young people will each engage in a paid, year-long fellowship aligned to one of Global Citizen’s four pillars of activity: creative, campaigns, rewards, and marketing.


This dynamic program will take Fellows through a multi-phase curriculum, specifically designed to equip them with the skills and tools they need to thrive – not just during their time with Global Citizen but also in any future professional environment.

Throughout the program, Fellows will be immersed in the use of digital technology for social change, storytelling tactics that shift attitudes, the importance of building lasting professional relationships, and the role of innovation in a constantly changing world.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Ages 21-25 (by time of application).
  • South African and Nigerian residents and citizens only.
  • Applicants without a tertiary qualification preferred. 
  • Applicants should be able to prove that they are active Global Citizens, either through the work they do in their communities or through Global Citizen’s website and/or app (Google Play Store OR App Store)
  • Applicants should be available full-time from 05th July 2021-30 June 2022
  • Family household income of under R120 000/3055563 Naira, and/or families that are headed by a single parent.
  • Applicants must be able to house themselves in Johannesburg and Lagos for the duration of the program. 
  • Those from minority and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Benefits

Yearly, 10 young people will each engage in a paid, year-long fellowship aligned to one of Global Citizen’s four pillars of activity: creative, campaigns, rewards, and marketing.

2020 Selection Process

  1. Step 1 (16 – 31 March): Submit the completed application process
  2. Step 2 (6- 10 April): Shortlisted candidates will be invited for assessments
  3. Step 3 (14-17 April): Shortlisted candidates will be invited for panel interview
  4. Step 4 (20 April): Selected candidates will be announced

BeyGOOD Global Citizen Fellowship Program 2019 for young South Africans (Fully Funded)

Through the program, 10-15 young people will each engage in a paid, year-long fellowship aligned to one of Global Citizen’s four pillars of activity: creative, campaigns, rewards and marketing.

This dynamic Program will take Fellows through a five-phase curriculum, specifically designed to equip them with the skills and tools they need to thrive –– not just during their time with Global Citizen but also in any future professional environment.

Throughout the Program, Fellows will be immersed in the use of digital technology for social change, storytelling tactics that shift attitudes, the importance of building lasting professional relationships, and the role of innovation in a constantly changing world.

Four Fellows (based on merit) will travel to New York City in September 2019 to experience Global Citizen’s annual festival in Central Park. The fellows will spend seven days with different teams and departments, while meeting influential people –– all of which will advance their growing skill sets.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Ages 18-28 (by time of application).
  • South African citizens and permanent residents only.
  • Applicants should have a matric qualification at a minimum.
  • Applicants should be able to prove that they are active Global Citizens, either through the work they do in their communities or through Global Citizen’s website and/or app (Google Play Store OR App Store).
  • Applicants should be available full-time from 1 May 2019 – 30 April 2020.
  • Family household income of under R120 000, and/or families that are headed by a single parent.
  • Those from minority and underrepresented communities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Benefits:

The Fellowship Program involves educational travel trips which include:

  • Round trip airfare from Johannesburg to Cape Town (June 2019). 
  • All trip-related meals.
  • All trip related lodging and transportation.

In order to be eligible for educational travel:

  • Applicants should be available to attend 90% of learning sessions in Johannesburg. 
  • Applicants should attend all training sessions pre- and post trips.
