AnitaB.org is seeking notable innovators of technology and technical civic leaders to elevate through the Abie Awards program. The Abie Awards honour these distinguished leaders, whose achievements and life stories demonstrate that all of them have the power to improve the world, individually and collectively. The award recognizes the incredible talent and hear how women and non-binary technologists are changing the world through technology.
Abie Award Categories
- Tech in Government Abie Award
- The Tech in Government Abie Award highlights the work of a woman or non-binary technologist within the federal, state, or tribal government in the U.S. who has worked behind the scenes in improving governmental services through technical innovation and modernizing the functionality of government.
- Technical Leadership Abie Award
- The Technical Leadership Abie Award is the most prestigious award and celebrates a woman or non-binary technologist who led or developed a product, process, or innovation that made a notable impact on business or society.
Eligibility Criteria
- They welcome and encourage submissions from outside of the United States for all awards.
- Nominee must speak English fluently enough to deliver an acceptance speech, and all nomination forms must be submitted in English.
- Nominees must be 18 years of age or older by the start of the annual Grace Hopper Celebration that the award they are applying for will be presented at. To be eligible for the 2023 Abie Awards, nominees must turn 18 years old no later than September 26, 2023.
- Nominators can submit multiple nominations for the same award, as well as submit nominations to more than one award. However, they encourage submitting thorough nominations over multiple nominations (quality over quantity).
- All Abie Awards are currently for individuals.
- You can nominate someone from your own company for an Abie Award.
- Nominees are able to nominate themselves for an award.
Benefits
- The recipient is honored at Grace Hopper Celebration and invited to the Abie Award Ceremony on the Mainstage at GHC.
- The award winner will also have a few speaking engagements throughout GHC on their work and accomplishments.
- Trip to GHC (Includes lodging, GHC registration, and a stipend for travel and expenses during the event)
- Additionally, recipients will receive $50,000 (for Technical Leadership Abie Award category).
Selection Criteria
- Nominees are executive and/or senior-level technologists who inspire the technology community through outstanding technological contributions and remain committed to increasing the representation of women and non-binary people in tech. Nominees are evaluated based on the following:
- Contributions to Technology: The nominee has demonstrated leadership by undertaking sustained technical work that covers important new ground. Consider the breadth, depth, and sustained nature of their work as a technologist and leader.
- Overall Impact: The technical contributions of the nominee have strongly impacted their industry or the society
- Impact on Women and Non-Binary Technologists: The nominee has deliberately acted to increase women and non-binary people’s impact, representation, and effectiveness in technology.
