Call for Proposals: Young Leaders in Energy Access Award 2017 (Fully Funded to Lisbon, Portugal)

The Energy Access work stream of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership invites Young Leaders in Africa and Europe to apply for the: Young Leaders in Energy Access Award | 21-23 March, 2017 | Lisbon, Portugal

Benefits

  • Up to five Young Leaders in the field of energy access will be invited to the ARE Energy Access Investment Forum held on March 22-23 in Lisbon, Portugal with all expenses covered.
  • The Young Leaders will get the opportunity to share their ideas and recommendations to improve energy access in Africa with a wide group of energy experts and high-level stakeholders, including the European Commission, the African Union Commission, the UN and the World Bank through a communiqué written on site!
  • The Young Leaders will also have the chance to broaden their knowledge of business opportunities for clean energy access and will receive a trophy acknowledging their contribution to bring sustainable energy access to Africa.

Requirements:

  • You are between 21 – 35 years old
  • You have a European or African nationality
  • You are an advocate for energy access in your community or at your institution, who works to bring sustainable energy access to communities in Africa.

How to Apply:

To apply, please submit the following:

  • A short essay (max. 400 words) on what makes you a young leader on energy access in Africa, why you are passionate about clean energy access and what you have done to contribute to SDG7.
  • Examples or evidence of your work that best demonstrates your passion to bring clean energy access to African communities, particularly through productive use,  (links to projects, articles, photos, blogs, videos, etc.) and to attend the ARE Energy Access Investment Forum in Lisbon.
  • What you would like to tell the leaders of today about energy access: please provide us with one recommendation (max. 100 words) that you would pass on to the leaders of the energy sector to address the main barriers and improve energy access in Africa.
  • Your CV with references

*Please note, that while we accept applications in French, the Forum and award ceremony will be conducted in English. Therefore, a working-level of English is required to participate.

2014 Africa-EU Energy Partnership Scholarship for Young African Journalists

In its capacity as organizer of the 2nd High-Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP), the AEEP Secretariat therefore invites Young Journalists to be part of, and contribute to, the conference, to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from 12-13 February 2014.

Up to 10 Young Journalists will be selected to work together, under the guidance of the communications team at the AEEP High-Level Meeting. Through their participation, selected Young Journalists will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of Africa-EU cooperation in the energy sector and the challenges various African countries continue to face in delivering energy services to their population.

2nd High-Level Meeting of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership

While at the conference, Young Journalists will report on the conference sessions

  • through Press Releases,
  • through Social and New Media channels including Twitter,
  • through video clips and interviews, and,
  • the official conference website.

In addition, Young Journalists have the opportunity to submit stories, interviews, and reports to their own countries/outlets.

Prior to the conference, each Young Journalists will be required to submit one short story or video about an energy issue of their choice in their own country for publication.

Selected candidates will be asked to report on the 2nd High-Level Meeting of the AEEP. As part of the scholarship, selected Young Journalists will receive a pre-conference briefing/training session with the AEEP Secretariat, a round-trip economy class travel ticket to Addis Ababa, as well as accommodation and subsistence for the duration of their stay, including a refund of visa costs, and airport transfers.

Eligibility Requirement

  • You are not older than 35 years and based in Africa or the EU.
  • You work as a print or online journalist, photojournalist, video journalist, and have at least three years of work experience across different media and platforms.
  • You are fluent in English. French is an advantage.
  • You have demonstrated your interest already and are eager to work more on energy and environment issues in your respective country.

How to apply

  • Write a short essay (250-300 words; in English) why energy as a topic is important to you, and why you would want to join the 2nd High-Level Meeting, as part of the conference communications team.
  • To demonstrate your abilities and interests, send us samples or links to your articles, photos, blogs, videos, etc on topics related to what will be discussed at the conference.
  • Include a resume/CV in English with references.
