2015 H&M Conscious Foundation Global Change Award ( € 1 million for Innovation in the Fashion Industry)

H&M Conscious Foundation launches the first ever Global Change Award−one of the world’s biggest challenges for early stage innovation and the first such initiative in the fashion industry. By catalysing green, truly ground-breaking ideas the aim of the challenge is to protect the earth’s natural resources by closing the loop for fashion.
The Global Change Award takes on one of the biggest challenges facing today’s fashion industry–to create fashion for a growing population while reducing its impact on the environment.
“The question for fashion is no longer “What is the new black?” but rather “What innovative ideas can close the loop?” The Global Change Award is looking for ideas that will protect the earth’s natural resources.
The Global Change Award is an innovation challenge, initiated by H&M Conscious Foundation in 2015. By catalyzing green, truly game- changing ideas the aim is to protect the earth’s natural resources and close the loop for fashion. The challenge annually selects
five ideas that share a grant of € 1 million and are supported with a unique one-year innovation accelerator provided by the H&M Conscious Foundation, Accenture and the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.

The five ideas are nominated by an expert jury consisting of Michael Braungart, Rebecca Earley, Ma Jun,Eva Kruse, Johan Rockström, Ellis Rubinstein, Franca Sozzani and Amber Valletta. The global public is invited to distribute half of the total grant through an online vote. The result of the vote is revealed at a grand award ceremony in Stockholm, February 2016. This is one of the world’s biggest challenges for early stage innovation and the first such initiative in the fashion industry

  • 07.02.2016 : The online vote closes. Half of the total grant has been distributed between the five winners.
  • 10.02.2016 : The result of the vote is revealed at a grand award ceremony in Stockholm

The Program is designed to help high performing students from disadvantaged backgrounds develop the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to becoming future leaders in their respective careers. A key driver of this commitment is an enriching workplace mentorship experience which supports students through the process of navigating career choices, gain valuable workplace experience while in school and transition from college into a mutually-rewarding career with reputable organizations of their choice.

SAP’s partnership with AYECI AFRICA (an NGO focused on developing key initiatives for youths) around the week-long mentorship program for fresh school leavers aligns with a shared focus on education and skills development especially for disadvantaged young people in Nigeria

Twenty-Five (25) fresh school leavers, selected based on their outstanding performance in the recent secondary school certificate examination (SSCE) are expected to benefit from the pilot phase of this program. The students would be placed in different SAP Partner Companies to receive an enriching workplace mentorship required to help them better understand the various career pathways and opportunities available to them.

What’s interesting is that this mentorship program isn’t just focused on exposing students to technology based careers. Along with the opportunity to be exposed to careers within the SAP Partner Companies, students will also gain employable soft skills.

While SAP is spearheading the program, Ayo, emphasizes that the goal is to achieve critical mass that will generate significant impact. Our approach is to work with our local partner companies harnessing all the resources to have the greatest impact on the next generation of professionals over time. Currently supporting the program is C2G Consulting, Accenture, Hartford Green Consulting & Serve Consulting.

Following the week-long mentorship program, mentored students are expected to showcase the outcome of their mentorship experience during the Program finale billed to hold at the SAP Nigeria Office, using learning materials provided by their corporate mentors.

Accenture Grants VSO US$3.5 Million to Equip People Across Africa with Job and Entrepreneurial Skills

Grant is part of Accenture’s Skills to Succeed corporate citizenship initiative

Accenture and VSO announced that Accenture and the Accenture Foundations have awarded VSO US$3.5 million to help the charity deliver job skills training to approximately 22,300 poor and disadvantaged people in Nigeria, Cambodia, Tanzania and Malawi. This grant brings Accenture’s direct support to VSO to more than US$9.2 million since 2003.

The award is part of Accenture’s global corporate citizenship initiative, Skills to Succeed, which plans to equip 700,000 people around the world by 2015 with the skills to get a job or build a business.

The five-year grant will support VSO’s new Improving Market Access for the Poor program by helping the organization develop the tools and people needed to deliver the initiative, enhance job skills and technical training and, ultimately, enable more poor and disadvantaged people – especially women – to participate in the economy.

“Supporting VSO’s Improving Market Access for the Poor program will help VSO identify where job and enterprise opportunities exist and empower people to access them,” said Jill Huntley, managing director, Global Corporate Citizenship, Accenture. “Over the course of five years, we will reach thousands of people by giving them the support and skills training they need to break into and start participating in the economy.”

In addition to the grant, Accenture will support VSO with pro-bono consulting and volunteering services, including developing economic analyses, creating training curricula and coaching and mentoring program staff.

“This support from Accenture provides for us the funding, tools and access to experienced professionals, to complement our expertise in international development,” said Donne Cameron, director of Africa, VSO. “We’re looking forward to the potential the Improving Market Access for the Poor program presents for people, especially for women, who are struggling to make the local markets work to their advantage.”

2014 Techlaunchpad Programme for Nigerian Tech Startups. (Second Edition)

The Techlaunchpad is a public private partnership focused on carefully selected tech start-ups who will be provided a training and mentorship program through Heads of ICT and Executives of private sector. The mentors work with the tech startups and young entrepreneurs to provide inputs to their software development to ensure the solutions have socio-economic relevance within the targeted industry.

In addition to assisting the start-ups to build software that meets international standards, the programme is also to provide access to fund and market, which are some of the inhibiting factors to the growth of the local, young technology companies.

One of the mandates of the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology is to promote and facilitate the development of the ICT industry in Nigeria. And the software industry presents a huge potential for job and wealth creation in Nigeria.

To catalyse this, the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology launched a Technology Innovation Program called the Techlaunchpad in collaboration with the private sector in 2012 to assist Nigerian technology startups (with viable solutions) to grow and develop their products and business for commercial purposes.

The First Edition of the programme which ran from July 2013 to March 2014 was targeted at the banks and oil and gas industries whereby eight (8) tech start-ups through rigorous processes of application, evaluation, shortlisting and selection conducted by the Ministry and its partners . They were incubated at the iDEA Centre in Lagos.

The program partners include Accenture, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Totalfina Elf, First Bank, Access Bank, Fate Foundation and others.

This Second Edition of the programme is targeted at the production of innovative, business-aligned software solutions for the Telecommunications, Agriculture and Logistics, Building and Construction and Health sectors. The Second Edition seeks tech startups with solutions that can address the following areas:

    • Agribusiness Productivity
    • Agribusiness Logistics
    • Agribusiness Marketing (at national, regional and global regions)
    • Inventory Control
    • Transport Control and Operations
  • Building and Construction
    • Construction Project Modeling & Project Control

Who can Pitch

Existing, new and aspiring software developers (company or individuals).:

  • Nationality
    • Participants must be Nigerian citizens
    • Participants must be of a minimum of 18 years
    • Participants must be available in Nigeria throughout the duration of the programme
    • Participants with business entities must be registered in Nigeria with a minimum of 51% local equity (i.e.. At least 51% of the company should be owned by Nigerians)

London to host Youth Business International Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit 2013.

Youth Business International (YBI) has announced that London will host the 2013 Global Youth Entrepreneurship Summit between 9-12 September.

The Summit, with lead sponsorship from Accenture and Barclays, will bring together 300 people from 50 countries across the world. Attendees include leaders from private sector, governments and non-profit organizations which are active in the youth entrepreneurship sector. The event is also supported by Goldman Sachs.

Under the theme of Business as Unusual, the Summit aims to demonstrate how to take advantage of the talents young entrepreneurs have to offer, and to catalyze a series of major partnerships that enable more young people to start their own business.

High-profile speakers on the event’s first day include:
