Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2017 for Young Entrepreneurs Worldwide (€50,000+ Prize & Fully Funded to London)

The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards are all about supporting and celebrating inspirational young people from all over the world with existing initiatives, products or services that are tackling some of the planet’s big.

Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards are looking for innovative and scalable technologies or initiatives that are contributing to one or more of these four categories:est sustainability challenges.

Farm to Table

In this category, we are looking for inspiring entrepreneurs who are working on sustainable initiatives relating to food and drink production right through to consumption.

Opportunities for Women

We are seeking initiatives that help to tackle the discrimination and disadvantages millions of women face around the world. You might be working to help provide access to skills and training for women, and creating opportunities for women to actively, safely

Waste

Are there entrepreneurs out there with ingenious initiatives that help to tackle waste – to reduce, reuse or recycle waste throughout the pre-production, production and consumption lifecycle? Initiatives should demonstrate a clear business

Water

Are you working on an initiative that tackles water scarcity, or one that addresses water pollution or sanitation and hygiene issues?

Requirements:

  • Anyone from around the world, aged between 18 and 35 (as of 30 June 2017), who is working on an initiative in one of the categories; Farm to Table, Opportunities for Women, Waste and Water.
  • Your initiative must have already progressed beyond the idea stage and started making an impact.

Prizes:

  • The Unilever Young Entrepreneurs Awards will recognise up to eight winners in 2017. Two finalists in each of the four categories will be selected from a video interview process and invited to an Accelerator Programme in Cambridge, where they will work with experts from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership, Unilever and other guest experts.
  • A winner will be selected out of each of the four categories. Those category winners will go forward to pitch to a guest judging panel who will then decide on the overall winner of the 2017 competition.
  • The overall winner will receive the ‘HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize.’

All will attend a special prize event hosted in London.

  • The winner of the ‘HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize’ will receive a €50,000 cash award and one-to-one mentoring support tailored to their specific needs for a duration of 12 months.
  • The category winners will receive a €10,000 cash award and one-to-one mentoring support tailored to their specific needs for a duration of 12 months.
  • The category finalists will receive a €7,000 cash award and one-to-one mentoring support tailored to their specific needs for a duration of 12 months.

How to enter?

  • To submit your entry, you’ll need to create a profile and complete the application form.
  • You’ll need to tell us all about your initiative’s story so far, and your vision for its future. The more you can share, the better.

Timeline

  • The competition deadline is Friday 30 June, 23:59 BST.
  • Better yet, if you enter your full submission by 09 June you’ll have the chance to win a special two-hour tailored mentoring session

2017 Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work (£25,000+ Prize & Fully Funded to London)

The Commonwealth Youth Awards for Excellence in Development Work aims to raise the profile and highlight the contribution young people make to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s). This award is presented to young people who are taking action to address development challenges in the world today from poverty, unemployment, climate change, violent extremism, lack of access to education etc. and are making a remarkable difference in the lives of the people in their local community, village, province, country, region and world at large.

The young people who will receive this award should demonstrate measurable/tangible impact through their development work.

The main Objectives of the Commonwealth Youth Awards are to:-

  • Highlight the contribution of young people in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by young people to development and democracy goals in the Commonwealth;
  • Create an environment which will encourage and sustain investments in youth led development;
  • Illustrate the depth and breadth of talent, commitment and creativity that exists among young people across the Commonwealth by highlighting nominees’ success stories;
  • Motivate, encourage and challenge young people (age 15-29) to set high standards for their work/service at community, national, regional or international levels;

Nomination Requirements

  • The nominee must have been engaged in development work for more than 12 months, either in a professional or voluntary capacity;
  • The nominee must be a Commonwealth citizen and the development work must be taking place in a Commonwealth member country;
  • The nominee should not be older than 29 on 31 December 2016;
  • Individuals can nominate themselves or be nominated by someone who can accurately describe their development work ++
  • The winners must agree to take part in publicity generated by the Commonwealth.

Awards will be decided on the basis of:

  1. Level of Impact;
  2. Level of innovation/fresh approaches to problem solving;
  3. Quality of achievement;
  4. Quality of the evidence provided.
  5. Sustainability

Awards Process

  • There will be four finalists per Commonwealth region with the top entry receiving the Regional Winner Award and the top regional winner receiving the Pan Commonwealth Award and to be named the Commonwealth Young Person of the Year 2017.
  • The 16 Regional finalists will each receive a £1,000 grant, a trophy and a certificate.
  • The 4 Regional Winners will receive an additional £2,000 (a total of £3,000) a trophy and a certificate
  • The Pan Commonwealth Winner will receive an additional £2000 (a total of £5,000) a trophy and a certificate.
  • The 4 Regional Winners will be invited to receive their awards at an official ceremony in London, United Kingdom during Commonwealth Week, March 2017.
