The Doc Society Climate Story Fund 2024 for creative nonfiction projects (up to $150,000 grants)

Applications are now open for the 2024 Doc Society Climate Story Fund. The Doc Society Climate Story Fund is seeking to support compelling storytelling and impact strategies from around that world that can help audiences envision the just transition, and activate them to make these visions a reality.

Doc Society Climate Story Fund will prioritize applicants that creatively explore how communities today are experimenting with new pathways for a more safe and just future for all; how responsive governments and civil society are counteracting the efforts of a fossil fuel industry determined to slow down the radical transformation of our livelihoods; and how leaders are steadfastly navigating complexity as they remain committed to repairing past harms.

The Doc Society Climate Story Fund provides up to $150,000 grants to support the completion of production of creative nonfiction projects, and for impact pilots for completed creative nonfiction and fiction projects.

Application Requirements:

  • Applications must be submitted online via the Doc Society applications portal here
  • All projects must be climate themed with an intention to implement impact activities
  • We don’t need you to be an impact expert but open to the idea
  • To qualify for production funding, projects must complete production within a year from being awarded the grant
  • To qualify for impact funding, projects must implement an impact pilot within a year from being awarded the grant
  • Grant requests may be up to $100,000 US dollars
  • All sample materials in languages other than English must have English subtitles
  • Sample materials should not be changed throughout the evaluation period
  • Budgets must be submitted in US dollars
  • All grantees must attend a virtual Impact Lab to connect with impact producers and climate experts, to help develop impact strategies and to craft impact pilots that are built upon existing expertise and advocacy efforts to engage their intended audiences.

The selection process will give preference to:

  • stories that help audiences envision the just transition
  • climate stories centering the most affected, the unengaged and the underrepresented, and puts them at the center of the story
  • storytellers working in and from those communities, sharing narratives that resonate deeply with new and unengaged audiences, bringing them into critical conversations around climate justice
  • projects that embody inclusion and diversity across team and subject matter
  • projects that exercise responsible practices when engaging story participants and communities

The Fund can support:

  • Applicants and projects from all over the world
  • Both new and established artists
  • Creative nonfiction projects, including long form, shorts or episodic documentaries as well as podcasts and radio documentaries in production
  • Completed creative nonfiction and fiction projects of any medium looking to implement an impact pilot
  • Applicants who agree to attend the required virtual Impact Lab programming

NGO CSW65 Forum Young Feminist Awards! 2021 for youth-led organizations ($5,000 Grant)

In collaboration with Women Have Wings, the NGO CSW Youth Leaders & Young Professionals is delighted to make available five $5,000 grant awards to youth leaders and young professionals who have a project or an idea to advance gender equality in their region. Top projects will be displayed on the NGO CSW65 Virtual Platform. Winners will be announced on 26 March 2021 during the NGO CSW65 Virtual Forum at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. 

Award:
Five $5,000 grants to youth-led organizations or organizations with projects to advance young feminists’ work. Individual youth leaders (between ages 18 to 40 years old at the time of submission) can be highlighted, but the grants must go to organizations.

Application Criteria:
Organizations must be registered in their country or have a fiscal sponsor who is registered. Priority will be given to young people in the Global South. No US based organizations are eligible. Your application must address one of the following themes.

Project Themes:

  • Advocacy – What is the future of advocacy for gender equality?
    This theme can include projects on gender equality, women in politics and decision making, leadership, governance, development and other advocacy campaigns, planning and implementation of advocacy training sessions as well as creation and distribution of advocacy materials.
  • Grassroots Projects – Projects that advance gender equality at the grassroots that need seed money.
    Any project that is designed to advance gender equality in society, in the workforce, politics, business, human rights, art, sports etc. Proposals for both new and existing projects are accepted if the submission clearly indicates how the grant will be used to implement an idea or increase the impact of the existing project.
  • Technology and Arts – Building platforms on gender issues that amplify youth voices in national and international spaces.
    This could include online platform development and launch projects, such as websites, blogs, apps and other forms of online advocacy or artistic expression that amplifies youth voices and perspectives on gender issues.

    • How do you plan to accomplish it and what is your planning and implementation timeline?
    • Who are the beneficiaries?
  • Who are your partner organizations, if any?
  • How do you plan to measure the impact of the project?
  • Project budget description – development/procurement of project materials
  • Short video of your elevator pitch to explain your project **optional (1 to 3 minutes)

    • Your full legal name
    • Date of birth
    • Country of citizenship, country of residence and mailing address
    • Email and phone number
    • Organization you are affiliated with or financial sponsoring institution
    • CV

Submission Guidelines: Write a summary of your project in 500 to 1,000 words. This can be in any of the UN Official languages. Deadline for submission is 1 March 2021, midnight EST. Email your submission to [email protected].

Submission Procedures:
Receipt of submissions will be acknowledged via email.
Five winners will be notified via email on 26 March 2021.

United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) Youth Solidarity Fund 2019/2020 for Innovative Youth Projects (USD 25,000 Grants)

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is pleased to invite youth-led organizations to apply for the Youth Solidarity Fund (YSF). The call is open to organizations from select countries whose work seeks to foster peaceful and inclusive societies through improved understanding and collaboration across cultures, faiths and beliefs.

Through a competitive evaluation process, YSF will award seed funding (up to USD 25,000) for the implementation of selected projects that demonstrate innovative approaches to intercultural or interfaith dialogue and advance the mission of UNAOC. YSF only supports projects that are entirely developed and managed by youth for the benefit of youth.

Established in 2008, the Fund responded to calls for action made by young civil society leaders around the world on the importance of establishing funding mechanisms for youth-led organizations. Since its creation, YSF has funded 63 youth-led organizations in 39 countries.

The projects funded by the YSF target young people from various backgrounds: students, marginalized youth, minorities, youth in rural or urban areas, youth in conflict or post-conflict situations, artists and activists. The youth-led organizations employ creative methodologies to break stereotypes, improve intercultural relations and promote a culture of peace:

  • Educational activities, ranging from one-day awareness raising sessions to week-long trainings, peer-education activities, summer camps, as well as development of educational materials and tools and creation of networks of student leaders and youth clubs;
  • Arts and sports as tools to address conflict in a non-violent way, to promote inter-community understanding and to raise-awareness about the dangers of sectarianism, extremism and radicalization;
  • Media and social-media campaigns, video production for advocacy purposes and radio series to promote messages of tolerance and peace;
  • Creative settings that facilitate intercultural dialogue, interfaith understanding, sharing of experiences and learning from each other in order to bring meaningful change to their society.

The 8th edition of the Youth Solidarity Fund is supported by the Government of Finland.
