The Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Memorial Scholarship Fund is an endowment fund established by the Bank of Tanzania (BOT) on 12th October, 2009 to commemorate the great achievements of the Late Father of our Nation, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere in the education sector.
The Fund was formally launched on 27th November, 2012 and granted the first round of Scholarships to qualifying candidates during the 2013/14 academic year.
The primary objective of the Fund is to promote interest and excellence in Mathematics and Science studies among female students in the United Republic of Tanzania. The Scholarships are granted on academic merit and based on a rigorous selection process.
Benefits
- Successful applicants are granted full scholarship which covers all university direct costs
- (tuition fees etc.) and student direct costs (meal, accommodation, book and stationery allowance, field practical training, special faculty requirement etc.) as specified in the respective institutions’ cost structures, including a laptop computer.
During the 2016/17 academic year, the Fund will provide six (6) Scholarships to top Tanzanian students for Undergraduate and Master’s Studies in accredited universities of the United Republic of Tanzania as follows:
1. Undergraduate Degree Programmes (4 Scholarships)
The Undergraduate Scholarships will be granted to top performers at the level of the
Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examinations (ACSEE) to pursue Undergraduate degree programmes in two categories:
Category A:
Science or Mathematics Studies (Female Students only)
Category B:
Information Technology, Economics, Accounting or Finance Studies (Male and Female Students)
2. Master’s Degree Programmes (2 Scholarships)
The Scholarships will be offered to both female and male best students who will
be admitted for Master’s degree programmesin the fields of Mathematics, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Accounting or Finance.
SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
For the Undergraduate Scholarship,the Fund will obtain a list of the 2016
ACSEE top ten (10) students from the National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA)
after the results and the said Scholarship will be granted to qualified candidates.
For Masters Scholarships, applications will be invited from July, 2016.
