In the frameworks of its Kalimat Sudania project in Sudan funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Sudan, CFI, the French media development agency, is pleased to invite media outlets as well as media initiatives/platforms/projects from Sudan, particularly new media such as online media, news websites, web radios, podcasts, web TVs, blogs as well as journalists and journalism students based inside or outside Sudan, that fall under the below categories to apply to benefit from:
- 6 online capacity building workshops for maximum 16 media outlets or initiatives/platforms/ projects.
- Online thematic trainings for maximum 64 journalists or journalism students from followed by coaching sessions related to the thematic trainings
There will be 2 categories of beneficiaries:
- Media outlets or media initiatives/platforms/projects covering the challenges that young people in Sudan are currently facing or established and run by young people, especially women from Sudan
- 64 journalists or journalism students.
Kalimat Sudania project strives to increase the inclusion of young people in public debate, strengthen local journalism and boost collaboration between the media and civil society, notably through local digital media.
Eligibility criteria
CATEGORIE A: Media outlets
- The applicant must be a media outlet or a media initiative/platform/project covering the challenges that young people in Sudan are currently facing and covering those issues that are of interest to them and/or established and run by young people, especially women in Sudan;
- The applicants must be a Sudanese media outlet/initiative/project based inside or outside Soudan;
- The applicant must submit the online application form, with a short description of the media outlet or initiative or project;
- The applicant must have an interest in producing contents related to the topics included in the trainings and the desire to increase their knowledge and deepen their skills;
- The participants from each selected media outlet should have the language proficiency to attend the trainings in Arabic;
- The journalists from each media outlet must commit to produce a content related to the training programme and authorize CFI to reproduce and disseminate them (non-commercial use);
- The applicant and proposed journalists must demonstrate knowledge of local context, priorities and sensitivities and respect for diversity and social cohesion;
- The applicant may be requested to provide additional details, information or documents.
Training Programmes
CATEGORIE A: MEDIA OUTLETS
à Online capacity building workshops for the 16 selected media outlets
-1 or 2 representative per media outlet will be able to attend the workshops;
Please note that a venue will be provided for participants in their city of residence to attend the online training session.
The selected media outlets and initiatives will benefit from 5 online capacity building workshops of 4 days each, in addition to a 6th 4-days online workshop to be organised on journalism in crisis and the role of the media in times of crisis. The workshops will take place between December 2023 and January 2024. For attendance, 1 or 2 representative per media outlet can be present. The presence of at least one of the two representatives is required for each workshop.
CATEGORIE B: JOURNALISTS AND JOURNALISM STUDENTS
- Workshops for 64 journalists (maximum)
Please note that a venue will be provided for participants in their city of residence to attend the online training session.
In order to stimulate local journalism and encourage the media to work on themes relating to the daily concerns of citizens (especially during the current armed conflict), up to 64 journalists and journalism students will be selected to attend thematics workshops.
Each training cycle will consist of:
One 4-day training course followed by a coaching course with support to produce contents on each thematic (with a break between the 2 courses).
The themes are:
General theme (2 days) for all journalists:
- Fact-checking and combatting fake news
Then 4 thematic trainings (4 days each) will be held in December –Each journalist can choose 2 thematics.
- Covering crisis and conflicts and human rights violations
