Applications are now open for the 2024 Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (EJS) Center Amujae Initiative. Every year, EJS select 15 extraordinary African women who are already making waves in politics and public service.  Through the transformative leadership development experiences, EJS fuel their ambition, sharpen their skills, and connect them with a network that spans generations. These women become part of a powerful sisterhood—a community of trailblazers united by a common purpose: to lead, to serve, and to pave the way for those who will follow.

Eligibility Requirements

An Amujae Leader is a woman who:

  • Is a citizen of and resides in any African country.
  • Has proven leadership talent, having excelled in her chosen field and distinguished herself as someone who can deliver transformative impact.
  • If not already involved in public service, has the vision and proven commitment to become an exceptional public leader.
  • Has demonstrated a commitment towards the upliftment/ empowerment of other women.
  • Is patriotic, demonstrating commitment and service to their home country/countries.

Selection Criteria

  • Vision: A clear and compelling vision for change.
  • Leadership: Proven experience in senior leadership within political, civil, or international institutions.
  • Political Savvy: Deep understanding of political systems, election processes, and power dynamics.
  • Credibility: Recognized expertise and a reputation for excellence.
  • Personal Mastery: The drive to take control of their career and future.
  • Resilience: The strength to overcome obstacles on the path to leadership.
  • Ambition: The readiness to take a bold step forward within the next five years.
