Skills Development Programmes are a critical element that contribute to the success of the tourism sector. An adequately skilled workforce ensures world class service levels are maintained within the tourism value chain, and also assure an enhanced visitor experience.
The Department’s Youth Skill Development Programmes are informed by the broader objectives of the National Tourism Sector Strategy that addresses skills shortages in the tourism sector by capacitating unemployed youth and graduates. In the 2021/22 financial year, the Department will implement various training programmes to enhance and upskill the youth to make a meaningful contribution to the economy of the country.
CHEFS TRAINING PROGRAMME:
This programme provides training in the field of Professional Cookery. It enables competent chefs to gain employment or create business opportunities in the hospitality industry. Learners who successfully complete the programme attain a National Certificate in Professional Cookery: (14111) NQF level 4, CATHSSETA accredited.

WINE SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAMME:
This 12 month training programme is designed to upskill youth and assure their success as competent Sommeliers. The learnership comprises of 30% theory and 70% practical training, equips learners with wine, drinks and customer service skills that will enable them to work anywhere in the world.
