2015 United Nations Alliance of Civilizations/BMW Group Intercultural Innovation Award (USD$100,000+ Prize)

Since 2011, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group have engaged in a historic partnership geared towards creating a new model for collaboration between the private sector and the UN system.
Together, they have established the BMW Group Award for Intercultural Innovation, in support of the Alliance of Civilizations, under the auspices of the United Nations (otherwise known as The Intercultural Innovation Award), whose mandate is to select highly innovative grassroots projects that promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, making vital contributions to prosperity and peace.
The main objective of the Intercultural Innovation Award is to identify and support innovative projects that are already being implemented and have potential for expansion and replication. The Award is given to the organization that is implementing the project with the overall objective of helping the organization to expand and adapt the project to other contexts.
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General which aims to improve understanding and cooperative relations among nations and peoples across cultures and religions, and to help counter the forces that fuel polarization and extremism.
The Intercultural Innovation Award will be bestowed upon ten organizations
Eligibility

 

Monetary Prize:

Awardees will receive a monetary prize to be used for project expansion and/or replication of their project. The total amount of the prize pool is USD 100,500 distributed as follows:
1st Prize: USD 40,000
2nd Prize: USD 20,000
3rd Prize: USD 15,000
4th Prize: USD 8,000
5th Prize: USD 5,000
6th–10th: USD 2,500
THE AWARDS TRAINING AND CAPACITY-BUILDING
  • In order to increase the effectiveness of awarded organizations in their work to expand or replicate their project, the UNAOC and BMW Group have developed an Intercultural Innovation Award training and capacity-building program.
  • Awardees will gather twice during the one-year of support to participate in a multi-day capacity-building workshop addressing issues such as scaling up, financial sustainability, human resources management, communication skills, marketing and use of social media. Workshops will be facilitated by expert trainers as well as BMW Group associates.
  • In addition, organizations will be offered the chance to participate in a series of webinars and other training opportunities in various topics of interest to them.
CUSTOMIZED SUPPORT AND MENTORING
  • Awardees will draw from one-year active support and consulting from the UNAOC and the BMW Group in order to help them to become more efficient and to expand, as well as enable their transfer to other contexts or settings where relevant.
RECOGNITION AND VISIBILITY
  • Awarded organizations will be invited to participate in the 7th UNAOC Global Forum where the Awards Ceremony will take place in the presence of hundreds of Heads of States, ministers, media and civil society organizations.
INTERCULTURAL LEADERS MEMBERSHIP
  • Awardees will become members of “Intercultural Leaders”, a project of the UNAOC in partnership with the BMW Group. Intercultural Leaders is an exclusive skills and knowledge-sharing platform for civil society organizations and young leaders that work on addressing cross-cultural tension.
SELECTION OF FINALISTS
  • Ten finalists will be selected by an international jury of experts composed of scholars, practitioners and one member of both the UNAOC and the BMW Group.
  • Applications will be assessed using the comprehensive set of criteria outlined below. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed during early 2016.
FINAL EVALUATION AND DECISION
  • Awardees will be invited to present their projects at the 7th UNAOC Global Forum. The final decision of the international jury of experts regarding the ranking of award recipients will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the UNAOC Global Forum

  • The pre-selection committee will select a shortlist of a maximum of 50 applicants.

detailed budget and a detailed activity plan of the project (using templates to be

An international jury composed of renowned scholars, experts, and members of the
BMW Group and the UNAOC will evaluate short-listed applications.

The Top 10 finalists will be invited to present their projects at the 7th UNAOC Global Forum. The final results (i.e ranking of finalists) will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the Global Forum.

2015/2016 Norwegian Government Quota Scholarship Scheme for Students from Developing countries to study in Norway

Applications are now open for the Norwegian Government Quota Scholarship scheme for Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD Students from Developing Countries at universities and university colleges in Norway 2015/2016 .
The main objective of the Quota Scheme is to contribute to capacity building through education that will benefit the home country of the students when they return. The Scheme is also intended to strengthen relations between Norway and the selected countries and thus contribute to internationalization at Norwegian institutions of higher education.
Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. The institutions involved are allocated a certain number of students under the programme each year. Most of the programmes offered are at Master’s or PhD level, but the Quota Scheme also offers certain Bachelor’s study programmes.

Students usually apply for degree programmes that serve as a continuation of their studies in their home country or for courses which can be a joint part of a degree programme in their home country (joint degree or sandwich programmes). Most of the programmes offered are at Master’s or PhD level, but the Quota Scheme also offers certain Bachelor’s study programmes.

All candidates should typically have the following basic qualifications:

  • Secondary school certificates
  • Minimum two years of higher education from their home country

Eligibility

  • If you wish to participate in the Norwegian Government Quota Scholarship Scheme, you must apply directly from your home country.
  • You must have stayed at least one year in your home country directly prior to the planned course of study at the Norwegian university /University College.
  • To be eligible to apply for the Quota Scheme, you must be able to find your home country on the list below.

Language Requirements:

Most of the study programmes offered under the Quota Scheme are taught in English. Applicants who are not native English speakers therefore must document their proficiency in English.

A few courses in the Quota Scheme are offered in Norwegian and require good skills in the Norwegian language. Students admitted to study programmes that are mainly taught in Norwegian may receive additional financial support for studying Norwegian language for one year prior to their study.

Admission to the Quota Scheme is highly competitive and meeting the minimum requirements is no guarantee for enrollment.

2015 INTERPOL Internship Programme , Lyon France (550 euros/Month)

Applications are now been accepted for the INTERPOL Internship Programme for candidates from any of its 190 member countries.

The Programme attracts young talent to the Organization and provides them with:

  • A better understanding of the Organization’s goals and objectives and how international police cooperation is organized;
  • An insight into how an international organization operates;
  • A framework to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments, thereby developing skills which are useful for their career and future employment;
  • Experience of working in a multicultural, multidisciplinary and multi-ethnic environment, contributing to the development of mutual understanding, trust and tolerance.

Eligibility

All applicants must:

  • Be a national of a member country;
  • Have attained the legal age of majority in their country of nationality;
  • Be fluent in English;
  • Be enrolled in, or have graduated from, an accredited academic institution within the past six months on the date of submission of the application.

Having a good knowledge of any of the other official working languages regularly used in the duty station where the Internship will take place (French, Spanish or Arabic) will be considered an advantage.

Location:

  • The majority of INTERPOL’s internship opportunities are based in the General Secretariat in Lyon, France.
  • Other opportunities may arise in any of the other duty stations where  the Organization has a presence: the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore as well as the Regional Bureaus and Liaison Offices.
  • Applicants are welcome to indicate their preferred area of activity in their application, taking into account the duty station(s) where they normally take place.
  • Internships may be offered in any of the above-mentioned locations, depending on the needs of the Organization and candidates’ profiles.

Duration:

The length of an internship varies from a minimum of six to a maximum of 11 months

Stipends:

  • Interns are entitled to receive a monthly allowance of 550 euros (the amount set for internships based in Lyon).
  • The allowance will be adjusted to the different duty stations according to the UN cost of living index and it will be prorated according to the number of days worked if an internship does not start at the beginning of a given month.

Candidates Cost

  • The intern is responsible for finding his/her own accommodation;
  • The intern is responsible for bearing all travel and insurance costs;
  • INTERPOL does not reimburse any expenses related to the recruitment and selection  processes;
  • Internship certificates/supporting documents will be provided at the end of the internship.
  • INTERPOL does not sign any Internship Agreement (Convention de Stage) other than its own. If your University requests a specific form, you should raise this issue and reach an agreement with your academic institution  prior to the beginning of the internship.

The Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) is pleased to announce the dates for its 2015 annual African Youth Dialogue on Elections and Governance to be held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

The aim of the Youth Dialogues is to foster the increase in the number of young people peacefully and actively participating in African elections and governance processes based on an appreciation of the significance of their demographic superiority. It is therefore a useful platform through which African youth have an opportunity to interact as they interrogate and deepen the understanding of issues of mutual interest pertaining to the development and transformation of the Continent.

Eligibility:

  • Participants will be drawn from all regions of Africa (North, West, Central, East and Southern Africa) using set criteria.
  • MINDS is interested in identifying participants doing significant work in the respective countries and communities.
  • To encourage networking and full participation, only 100 youths will be accepted to the dialogue.
  • MINDS will meet all the direct costs of participation in the dialogue.

2015 United Nations Youth Envoy & AIESEC #YouthNow Video Contest

Youth opinion is a priority for the United Nations! AIESEC and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth are launching a video contest as part of the #YouthNow campaign leading up to the High-Level Event of the General Assembly hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Join the contest for a chance to have your video formally featured as part of the digital surge leading up to and during the High-Level Event of the General Assembly hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on 29 May 2015. The event will be attended by over 1,000 people from around the world, including Ministers and youth leaders! Your video can help inform the online conversation and will be tweeted formally from the UN Youth Envoy account.

What you need to answer in a short video [3 minutes maximum]:

1) What are the most critical issues for youth in 2015?
2) Why is youth development central to the global development agenda?
3) What you think a solution(s) could be?

Post your video on any social media platform using the hashtag #YouthNow. The video can also include your personal action(s) or a project(s) to make a positive change for #YouthNow.

  • Answer all three questions
  • Videos can be made using a camera phone.
  • Videos do not need to be professionally made.
  • Limit is 3 minutes, however your video can be shorter.
  • Videos if shared on Facebook, videos must have security featured set to “public” for tracking them.

2015 French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) Doctoral Scholarships for study in France

The French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) is organizing a competitive examination to recruit doctoral students for a period of one to three years:
  • 6 doctoral students, enrolled in a French or foreign university, who will receive a doctoral grant for a period of 1 to 3 years, depending on the university year of their first thesis enrolment (3 years for students who first enrolled in 2015
  • 2016, 2 years for those who first enrolled in 2014-2015 and 1 year for those who first enrolled in 2013-2014). The monthly remuneration in 2014
  • 2015 was 1,684.93 euros gross (1,359 euros net).
  • Doctoral students with external funding (employment / doctoral contract with a body other than INED) but who wish to be hosted without remuneration at INED and to benefit from its scientific environment.

Eligibility:

  • A Master’s degree (M2) or equivalent qualification in a discipline related to population science (demography, economics, epidemiology, history, sociology, etc.) M2 defended before 17 June at the latest.
  • Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme in a French or foreign university at the start of the 2015-2016 academic year.
  • The first year of PhD thesis enrolment must not be earlier than 2013 (2015-2016, 2014-2015 or 2013-2014 academic years).
  • Applicants of all ages and all nationalities are eligible.
  • The student’s application must be supported by at least two advisors, including at least one INED researcher
  • The thesis supervisor may be a non-INED researcher, but applications from students whose PhD is supervised or co-supervised by an INED researcher will take priority.
  • Applications must be uploaded and accepted on the website by 20 May 2015 at the latest (with the exception of Master’s dissertations and defence reports completed after that date).
  • Applicants must present a research project that corresponds to the themes and methodological approaches of INED (see the INED website:http://www.ined.fr/en/) and/or of the iPOPs laboratory of excellence (see the iPOPs website: http://www.ipops.fr/).
  • The candidates whose advisor supervises 2 or more PhD students already funded by INED or iPOPs in 2015-16 won’t be eligible.

• A curriculum vitæ
• The M2 dissertation
• The M2 defence report
• The M2 grade transcript
•A letter of motivation stating why the applicant wishes to obtain an INED studentship
An academic text for applicants already enrolled in a PhD programme (generally a provisional version of the first thesis chapter)
• A thesis project (no longer than 5 pages max.), written by the applicant and prepared with his/her (future) advisors who are supporting his/her application. This document must contain the following:
o Applicant’s personal details:
name and university;
o A short, clearly worded title describing the main purpose of the applicant’s research;
o An abstract (150 words);
o A presentation of the research topic, objectives and research questions, based on a review of the
state of the art;
o Presentation of methods;
o A work plan (research plan, collaborators, if any). Applicants already enrolled in a thesis programme are asked to describe the state of progress of their research;
o A thesis completion schedule
This document must be prepared very carefully. The schedule must be discussed in order to determine which aspects, if any, are liable to delay completion, and what alternative solutions could be adopted if any difficulties arise;
o The applicant’s career plan;
o A bibliography (one page at most).

2015 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application ($10,000 Prize)

The $10,000 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by the Rockefeller Foundation, will be presented every October in Des Moines, Iowa, by the World Food Prize Foundation.

This award will recognize exceptional, science-based achievement in international agriculture and food production by an individual under 40  who has clearly demonstrated intellectual courage, stamina, and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty.

The award will honor an individual who is working closely and directly “in the field” or at the production or processing level with farmers, animal herders, fishers or others in rural communities, in any discipline or enterprise across the entire food production, processing, and distribution chain.

Nominee Eligibility:

  • Nominees must be under the age of 40 (40th birthday not reached before World Food Day, October 16, of the year in which the award is presented).
  • Nominees must be actively working in the discipline, research area, position, or on the project(s) for which they are being recognized. They may be associated with a public or private educational, research or development organization or related entity.
  • Nominees remain eligible for consideration beyond the year of their nomination, at the discretion of the Award Jury, as long as the award criteria and age requirement are met.
  • The award is intended to be presented to one person. In unusual and rare circumstances, another person may share the award for pronounced collaborative efforts and achievement.

Nomination Documentation

All nominations must be submitted in English online at www.worldfoodprize.org/borlaugfieldaward.

Required Nomination Documentation:

  • A concise statement (3000-word limit) explaining and describing:
    1) the nominee’s work and accomplishments, with details and examples that illustrate several of the criteria
    specified for this award;
    2) how, in doing this work, the nominee reflects the attributes demonstrated by Dr. Borlaug during his early career; and
    3) the impact or results of the nominee’s work.
  • Nominee’s Curriculum Vitae or resume, including date of birth, country of origin, education, and professional background.
  • One (1) nomination letter and two (2) letters of support describing, explaining and emphasizing the main achievements of the nominee must be provided with the nomination.  Due to the high volume of nominations, please do not submit more than two support letters.
  • Photos: A head shot of the nominee is required (minimum 300 dpi resolution); 2 additional action photos of the nominee at work may also be submitted.

Who Can Nominate:

  • Any individual or organization may submit a nomination.  Nomination letters from organizations must be signed by an executive officer. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
  • Nominators should have a direct knowledge of the nominee’s work and should provide a number of specific examples, explaining how the nominee’s accomplishments align with the award criteria.
  • Letters of support may come from individuals or organizations with a direct knowledge or a basic understanding of the nominee’s work.

Announcement of the Award:

The recipient of the Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application will be announced to the public and the media in the period of August/September.

Presentation of the Award:

The Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application will be presented in a ceremony during World Food Prize Week events in Des Moines, Iowa, on or near World Food Day, October 16.

2015/2016 Nestle Nutrition Institute Postgraduate Fellowships for Young Health Professionals from Developing Countries (40’000 CHF Fully Funded)

The nutrition fellowships provided by the Nestlé Nutrition Institute enable young health professionals from developing countries to access postgraduate training through leading institutions. Since 1981, more than 500 doctors and scientists have benefited from our fellowships and clinical grants.

The Nestle Nutrition Institute offers research grants in the fields of young women’s health, mother and child health and nutrition. NNI offer these fellowship grants to health professionals from anywhere in the world * applying for post-graduate research training.

  • The duration of the training can last up to 12 months. All institutions offering a training programme in the area of Maternal and/or Child Health and Nutrition are eligible to be a host institution.

Requirements:

  • Fellowships are available for post graduate qualifications only.
  • Fellow has to be affiliated with an academic/clinical institution
  • Potential candidates should submit an application describing their interest in participating in the NNI Pediatric Nutrition Fellowship (to access Application Form click here).
  • The application form must be accompanied by the following:
    • 1. Details of their current level of training,
    • 2. Curriculum Vitae,
    • 3. A plan of the proposed training/activity clearly indicating its specific outcomes and
    • 4. Two letters of recommendation (1 from the institution where the candidate is working and 1 from the host institution*).
    • 5. Letter stating intent to return to the home country upon completion of the training program.

*Host Institution (Sites) – any scientific institution offering a program in the fields of Maternal and/or Child Health and Nutrition

Fellowship Worth:

  • To carry out a research project in a foreign country institution.
  • The NNI will cover the fellow’s roundtrip travel to the host Institution, lodging expenses and a monthly stipend in addition to any host institution fees and some study related expenses up to 40’000 CHF.
  • The amount of 40’000 CHF applies for the longer length projects (12 months).
  • A proportion of this amount will be paid to shorter duration projects. The money will be given to the Host Institution which will disburse it to the fellow.
  • In no case will any money be given directly from the NNI to the fellow.2. To attend a training course
  • Such course could include, but is not limited to: learning a specific laboratory technique, statistics, nutrition, etc. In such cases the moneys assigned will be to pay course registration fees, round trip travel, lodging and living expenses and health insurance coverage for the duration of the course.

Conditions

  • Successful candidates will be required to start their training within 1 year of being notified of the fellowship award.
  • Duration of the support for the research training lasts for a maximum of 12 months.
  • Upon certification, fellowship awardees return to their home countries.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 40
  • INK prefers Fellows to be based in young economies, but great candidates from any location will be considered seriously and competitively
  • Candidates must be present for the entire duration of the INK2015 Conference, and arrive in Mumbai two days earlier. Fellows will be in Mumbai from October 14th–19th, 2015

Delegates will be selected to represent countries outside the U.S. at the Global Youth Institute held in Des Moines, Iowa, October 15-17, 2015.

There, they will join over 300 other outstanding high school students and teachers from across the United States and around the world for an exciting three-day program to interact with Nobel and World Food Prize Laureates, and the more than 1,000 global leaders from 75 countries attending the World Food Prize’s annual international symposium.

At the Global Youth Institute, participating high school students have the opportunity to:

  • Present research and recommendations on how to solve key global challenges in a short speech and small group discussions with international experts
  • Connect with other student leaders from across the United States and other countries to share ideas, identify solutions to these problems and build lasting friendships
  • Tour cutting-edge industrial and research facilities addressing food and water security, nutrition, global agriculture and health
  • Interact with global leaders in science, industry and policy at the Borlaug Dialogue international symposium
  • Meet the World Food Prize Laureates at the magnificent Norman E. Borlaug Hall of Laureates before they receive the “Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture” for greatly advancing human development by improving the quality, quantity or availability of food in the world

By participating in the Global Youth Institute, students are eligible to apply for a prestigious Borlaug-Ruan International Internship or USDA Wallace-Carver Fellowship.

Borlaug-Ruan International Internship: an all-expenses-paid, eight-week hands-on experience for high school students to work with world-renowned scientists and policymakers at leading research centers in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Wallace-Carver Fellowship: a paid two-month research or policy placement at a U.S. Department of Agriculture laboratory or field office, or at USDA headquarters in Washington D.C.

How to Participate:

  • To participate, students research a global issue and write a five-page paper under the supervision of a teacher mentor (using the downloadable guidelines above).
  • Each high school must register their student delegate nominee(s) and submit each student’s research paper online by August 3, 2015. Ninth through Twelfth grade students are eligible to apply.
  • All submitted registrations and research papers will be evaluated by a committee of experts, and invitations to attend the Global Youth Institute as a student delegate representing their country will be emailed by August 15, 2015.

Benefits

  • Accommodation, meal and program expenses at the three-day event (Thursday morning through Saturday afternoon) are provided by the World Food Prize Foundation for participating student delegates and their teacher mentors.
  • However, both student and teacher participants must organize and fund their own transportation to and from the event in Iowa, as well as their lodging Wednesday evening prior to the start of the institute.
  • As such, the student and teacher mentor are responsible for transportation, lodging, meal and other associated costs of participation accrued outside of the actual event.

ELIGIBILITY:

Africa has ideas and talent but African start-ups lack access to capital, especially in the first phase of development.

In 2014, the first Train My Generation Survey undertaken by the New York Forum AFRICA with the Train My Generation vocational training fund established by the New York Forum Institute in 2013, highlighted this point: 56% of the 5,000 young African respondents to a recent survey conducted by the New york Forum Africa in 2014, pointed to their difficulty in finding funding.

In this context, Richard Attias, founder of the New York Forum Institute, initiated the African Start-up Award in partnership with France 24 and Le Point Afrique, the on-line edition of Le Point dedicated to Africa that was launched in March 2014.

The Award will support talent and the most creative initiatives, particularly those with a social impact component.

Qualification criteria:

  • • The start-up must be an independent company formed less than three years ago with a year of activity
  • • 100% of the capital is provided by African nationals
  • • The start-up’s activity is based in Africa

Benefits:

  • You will be judged by an expert panel, with grants going to the top four laureates, with the winner getting 50 000 euros,
  • The winning start-ups will be covered in Le Point Afrique,
  • And will enter the Top 50 of the most innovative African start-ups, which will be promoted during the New York AFRICA 2015 and in Le Point Afrique.

  • • The 4 laureates will be invited to attend the New York Forum AFRICA, August 28-30 2015, with return flights and accommodation expenses covered.

President Obama elevated entrepreneurship to the forefront of the United States’ engagement agenda during a historic speech in Cairo in 2009. Since 2010, when the U.S. hosted the first Summit in Washington, D.C., GES has expanded to a global event, subsequently hosted by the governments of Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Morocco.

The 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, on July 25-26. It will be the sixth annual gathering of entrepreneurs at all stages of business development, business leaders, mentors, and high-level government officials. The established tradition demonstrates the U.S. Government’s continued commitment to fostering entrepreneurship around the world.

The Government of Kenya has agreed to co-host the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) this July.  Organized annually since 2009, the GES has emerged as a global platform connecting emerging entrepreneurs with leaders from business, international organizations, and governments looking to support them.  This will be the first time the GES will take place in sub-Saharan Africa.

President Obama will travel to Kenya in July, where he will hold bilateral meetings and participate in the GES.  His trip will build on the success of the August 2014 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and continue our efforts to work with countries in sub-Saharan Africa, including Kenya, to accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve security.  This will be President Obama’s fourth trip to sub-Saharan Africa during his presidency.

The International Forum for Good Governance (IFGG) 2015 is an international gathering of 50+ youth leaders from around the world. The winner of the Alfred Fried Photography Award will receive the sum of € 10,000. In addition, the top five listed photographers will be awarded the Alfred Fried Peace Medal of the PHG.

The award ceremony will be held at the Austrian Parliament in Vienna on 17 September 2015, just days ahead of the UN International Peace Day.

2015 David Oyedepo Foundation scholarship program for Undergraduate African Students

The David Oyedepo Foundation scholarship program is the major platform for promoting the vision and goals of DOF. The scholarship program awards scholarships to qualified individuals who are indigenes and residents of African countries, and have been offered admission to specific universities in Nigeria.

The DOF scholars program grants individuals the opportunity to acquire a first degree at top schools in the African continent. It grants individuals the opportunity to build up the leadership potentials that are so evidently lacking in the leaders of our today’s society, through the yearly programs and community development initiatives.

The scholarship program covers all study and travel expenses for the duration of the course of study. In order to apply for the scholarship program, you must:

– Be a Citizen of an African Country

– Resident of an African Nation

– Between the ages of 18 and 25

Candidates can apply to their choice course of study. However, special consideration would be given to candidates whose courses fall under the following categories:

  • • Agriculture and allied courses
  • • Medicine
  • • Para Medical science
  • • Political science
  • • Education and allied courses
Scholarship Type: Scholarship is available for pursuing undergraduate program at the Covenant University and Landmark Universityuf

Each scholarship awardee becomes a David Oyedepo Foundation Scholar (DOF scholar) and is expected to meet up with the requirements each year for maintaining the scholarship program.

  • • The DOF Scholars are between the ages of 18-25
  • They are either
    • • Recipients of the university or secondary school scholarship programs
    • • Fresh graduates who are applying for post graduate study scholarship

Scholarship Maintenance:

All applicant are awarded full scholarship for the duration of their study, however a yearly review of scholarship is carried out every year to ensure candidate remains worthy of scholarship award. Each scholarship awardees

  • Must maintain a continuous standard of excellence as measured by the David Oyedepo Foundation
  • Carry out a yearly summer community project that fulfil the following criteria:
    • Must be focused on community development
    • Must be a community based project
    • Must engage a volunteer base of class and schoolmates
    • Must engage knowledge in current field of study
  • A video & document report of the project must be generated and submitted to the foundation at the end of every school year.
  • The school will be required to generate and send the foundation a semester by semester report of academic progress.

2015 African Palliative Care Education Nurses Scholarships for Africans

The African Palliative Care Association (APCA) in partnership with Global Partners in Care provides a limited number of scholarships each year for Palliative Care Training opportunities. 

Scholarships are awarded up to a maximum of US$ 4,000 through a competitive application process once a year. APCA and Global Partners in Care give priority to requests of Registered and Enrolled nurses to pursue palliative care training in Africa. 

Scholarship Worth:

The Scholarship fund will support:

Palliative care education and training at recognized institutions in Africa for Enrolled and Registered Nurses.  Training programmes which the Scholarship supports include:

  • Palliative care distance learning diploma and degree courses run in Africa (up to USD $4,000)
  • Special consideration on a case by case basis may be made.

Additional funds may be awarded to nurses and social worker scholarship recipients who agree to train other health care workers in palliative care in their respective community.

*Note: This list is not exhaustive and is presented as an indication of what the fund will cover. Other appropriate training opportunities within Africa for nurses related to palliative care may also be considered for funding.  Please see some of the courses available in Africa

Application Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a Registered Nurse or an Enrolled Nurse residing and practicing in Africa and with evidence that they will be able to continue providing palliative care after their training (please provide a supporting letter from head of your institution confirming this).
  • Currently be involved in the provision of palliative care with a desire and commitment to enhance their skills.
  • Have applied for the course they intend to pursue (where they have an acceptance this should be attached to the application)
  • Legibly complete the application form  and attach all supporting documents requested 

Issues to note in regard to the application process

  • The offer is conditional on applicants securing admission to the Training institution and will only be awarded when this confirmation is received. Should the candidate not be accepted, the scholarship will be awarded to another candidate.
  • Successful applicants should be ready to commence the training in the current year.

Applications are invited for the 2015 UNESCO/POLAND Co-Sponsored Research Fellowship Programme in Engineering. Up to forty-five (45) fellowships will be awarded for a period of six (6) months duration starting on 1st October 2015.

To be eligible for these fellowships, applicants must hold Bachelor’s or M.Sc. degrees and must not be more than 45 years of age.

With a view to promoting human resource capacities in the developing countries and to enhancing international understanding and friendship among nations and the people of Poland, the Polish National Commission for UNESCO and the UNESCO Chair for Science, Technology, and Engineering Education at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow have placed forty-five  (45) fellowships of six (6) months duration each, in Poland, starting on 1 October 2015. The beneficiaries of these fellowships will be given the opportunity to undertake an individual research programme in the field of Science, Technology and Engineering.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to qualify for consideration:

  • Hold the Bachelor’s or M.Sc. degrees

Scholarship Worth:

  • Free tuition and access to the university facilities based on the local regulations
  • Accommodation at the AGH UST Student Campus organised for fellows by the UNESCO AGH Chair
  • Monthly allowance of1350 PLN (approximately US $450) corresponding to the salary of a local junior research fellow. Thus, all living expenses and accommodation in Poland are to be borne by the fellow with this allowance
  • A one especial allowance of1350 PLN to be paid upon arrival in Poland, this sum will cover different activities related to your stay in Krakow, such as an obligatory medical check-up upon arrival (in accordance with the internal regulations for all students); cultural, historical and/or touristic visits, conferences, workshops, and seminars related to your studies
  • Note: No provision to finance or lodge family members is made. At the end of the research studies, the beneficiaries will receive a certificate attesting to their attendance at the host institution, this certificate will be given after receipt of the requested reports and financial clearance from the Institution

Facilities offered by UNESCO

(i) International travel expenses: (by the most direct, economical route) from the beneficiary’s country to and from Poland will be covered by UNESCO under its Regular Programme Budget.

(ii) Health insurance for fellowship beneficiaries who are declared medically fit: UNESCO fellowship holders may be covered by a health insurance policy, taken-out by the Organization for the duration of fellowship. The costs of this health insurance is subscribed to and covered by UNESCO on behalf of awarded fellows.

2015 Global Forum on Youth Peace and Security, Amman, Jordan ( 21-22 August 2015) – Fully Funded

The Global Forum on Youth, Peace and Security, hosted in Amman, Jordan on 21-22 August 2015, will bring together young people, youth-led organizations, non-governmental organizations, governments and UN entities to agree on a common vision and road map to partner with young people in preventing conflict, countering violent extremism and building lasting peace.

The Forum will last for two days and consist of two segments: a high-level policy segment during which participants will discuss key policy recommendations towards a new international agenda on youth, peace and security and a technical segment, dedicated to exchange of experiences and best practices. Topics include: youth leadership, governance and participation, post-conflict planning and financing, media and community, young women and shaping peace.  Half of the participants in the Forum will be young people .

Criteria:

Selection Process:

  • Participants will be selected on the basis of motivation and experience.
  • The organizers will ensure balance in terms of age, gender, geography and diversity among selected participants.
  • The majority of selected participants will represent an organization and come from communities or countries affected by conflict, going through a post-conflict process or facing widespread violence.
  • Age: youth participants should be between 15-35 years of age.
  • Experience and Leadership:  youth participants must demonstrate leadership in peacebuilding, reducing violence or countering extremism through examples of initiatives they have undertaken at the community or policy level in countries in conflict, post-conflict or with widespread violence.
  • Networks: youth participants must be members of or affiliated with a youth-led organization, network or movement or they must be able to demonstrate how they can disseminate the outcomes of the meeting to a wider network.
  • Commitment: youth participants must demonstrate commitment to nonviolence, peaceful and inclusive societies, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Charter, Aims and Purposes of the United Nations.
  • Language:  youth participants must have an understanding of English, French or Arabic. All applications must be submitted in English, French or Arabic. Interpretation between English, Arabic and French will be provided during the Forum.

Logistics:

  • Scholarships for travel & participation: the travel, visa and accommodation of select youth participants will be covered.
  • Once successful applications are selected, the Forum planning committee will be in touch to confirm who has been selected to be sponsored. No additional application is needed for sponsorship inquiries.
  • Arrival and travel: Participants are expected to arrive August  20 and to depart August 23.
  • All participants must fly into Queen Alia International Airport in Amman, Jordan.

Transparency International Photography Competition 2015 (A paid trip to Malaysia to participate in the 16th International Anti-Corruption Conference)

Contest theme: Illustrate the negative effects that corruption has on your world.

Images have the power to bring about change. They evoke emotion and deliver information that can spur people to action. This is true in the fight against corruption, but capturing the devastating effect that corruption has on people’s lives is hard.

That’s why Transparency International, the Thomson Reuters Foundation and the International Anti-Corruption Conference are sponsoring Capturing Corruption, a photography competition that is looking for imaginative and powerful images that show the corrosive effects of corruption.

Eligibility:

Whether you’re a student who photographs as a hobby, a professional photographer or are just looking for inspiration to use your new camera– we encourage everyone* to apply.

In order to be an eligible participant of the photo competition, applicants MUST:

  • Be 18 years old or older on 15 July 2015.
  • Submit a photo in digital format and which meets the criteria set out in the Guidelines/How to enter section below. No print or video submissions will be accepted.

What can you win?

There will be three winners in each of the two categories, plus the chance for runners up to have their work published on both the Transparency International and Thomson Reuters Foundation websites.

The two age categories are: (1) 18-30 years old* and (2) 31 years old and older.

The jury will award three winners in each category:

  • 1st prize: A paid trip to Malaysia to participate in the 16th International Anti-Corruption Conference (2-4 September 2015) and participation in a Thomson Reuters Foundation Photo Journalist course. The all-expenses paid course will combine theory with practical work, and a focus on building a portfolio worthy of publication on the Reuters news wire.
  • 2nd prize: €500
  • 3rd prize: €250

The photographic work of all winners and seven runners-up in each category will be published on the Transparency International website and the Thomson Reuters Foundation website.

* The competition youth category is in memory of Jesse Garcia who passed away in 2013. He was dedicated to bringing to life the work of Transparency International in images.

The deadline for submissions is 12 June 2015.

The winners will be announced in July 2015.

Guidelines:

  • The deadline for submissions is 12 June 2015. There is no fee associated with entering the competition.
  • Each entrant may submit a maximum of 3 photos, in digital formats (JPEG/GIF/TIFF). We will also accept mobile photo entries.
  • The maximum file size is 10mb per photo.
  • Minimum resolution of 300 DPI is required.
  • The relevant age category as outlined previously must be selected.
  • Photo submissions must be unpublished.
  • By submitting an entry, the contestant confirms that he/she owns the right to all his/her photo(s), including intellectual property, and that the rights of a person or persons included in his/her photo(s) (subject) have not been violated. This is further addressed in the Terms and Conditions section.
  • Entries depicting violence, racism or pornography will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Captions are critical. Each photo must be accompanied with a short conceptualisation caption (maximum 600 characters). Well-written captions are needed so that judges understand the context of the image. Only captions in English, French, German and Spanish languages will be accepted for the entry to the competition.

  • The ICIP Peace in Progress Award 2015 consists of an honorary distinction, public recognition, a sculpture created by Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and a 4,000€ reward.

2015 VISAGE Photography Competition on Gender Equality.

Application Deadline:

Students are invited to submit photographs showing positive examples of gender equality.  Submissions can be humorous or serious. But they should stick to the goal of raising awareness among students. The competition will be promoted through social media and promotional material around the University campus.

VISAGE plan to maximize exposure and participation of the competition through social media. The best submissions will be selected via a Website vote based on the number of ‘likes’ received. These will be displayed at the exhibition where all attendees will be able to vote on their favorite. Prizes will be awarded for the three most popular photographs.

  • The first prize winners will be awarded camera with a certificate of appreciation and a Visage membership.
  • The 25 best photographs will displayed at the venue of the University of Vienna on the 30th June 2015.

2015 United Nations OHCHR Indigenous Fellowship Programme – Human Right Training in Geneva Switzerland (Fully Funded & All Expense Paid)

The Indigenous Fellowship Programme (IFP) is a comprehensive human rights training programme that was established by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in the context of the first International Decade of the World’s Indigenous Peoples (1995-2004).

The programme contributes to build the capacity and expertise of indigenous representatives on the UN system and mechanisms dealing with human rights in general and indigenous issues in particular, so they are in a better position to protect and promote the rights of their communities at the international level.

Since the launch of the training programme in 1997, more than 300 indigenous men and women from all over the world have been trained. They provided human rights training to many more in their communities.

The curriculum is also adjusted as per language component and is currently organized as follows:

  • English and French : the training only takes place in Geneva and lasts four weeks;
  • Spanish: organized in collaboration with the University of Deusto (UD) in Bilbao, Spain, the programme is composed of a two-month course at the UD, followed by four weeks of training at the OHCHR in Geneva;
  • Russian : organized in collaboration with the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (PFUR) in Moscow, Russian Federation, the programme consists of a one-month course at the PFUR, followed by four weeks of training at the OHCHR in Geneva

The Training:

  • The IFP is accessible in four different languages: English, French, Spanish and Russian.
  • The IFP is held annually and fellows from the 4 language components of the programme are trained together with simultaneous interpretation during 4 to 5 weeks in Geneva.
  • The date of the training programme usually coincides with the annual meeting of the Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (June/July), thus allowing the fellows to participate more actively in that Mechanism.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. The candidate must be indigenous (non-indigenous persons will not be taken into consideration, even if they have close links with indigenous communities and/or organizations).
  2. Age should not be a limitation to participation in the programme.
  3. Formal education should not be a limitation to participation in the IFP given the socio-economic barriers confronted by many indigenous peoples that limit access to formal educational institutions.
  4. Candidates should agree to train other indigenous persons after the return to their respective communities/organizations.
  5. The candidate should be proposed and his/her candidacy supported by his/her indigenous organization and/or community. It is desirable that the sponsoring organization has a firm constituency or membership and that it is representative.
  6. The candidate should have a good working knowledge of the language, in which the programme is imparted.

Benefits

  • The selected candidates are entitled to a return flight ticket, living expenses and basic health insurance for the duration of the training.

The African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF) in collaboration with FEMRITE – Uganda Women Writers Association, invites African women writers and journalists to apply for the Writing for Social Change Workshop 2015. This 10-day writing workshop, will be taking place in Uganda from July 27 to August 5, 2015.

The workshop will be facilitated by veteran BBC journalist and media expert Elizabeth Ohene from Ghana and award-winning writer Yewande Omotoso, from Nigeria/South Africa/Barbados.

This workshop is targeted at women writers, journalists and activists who wish to step-up their involvement in highlighting issues around women’s rights and social justice.

  • Participants will be expected to read widely from assigned selected texts, and to complete daily writing exercises. After the workshop, the participants are expected to use the knowledge acquired to write widely about social justice issues in and beyond their communities.

This workshop is part of AWDF’s efforts to amplify African women’s voices and is aimed at creating a network that will enable participants to place their articles and stories in a range of local, regional and international media.

Priority will be given to interested women journalists who wish to actively engage in women’s activism – AWDF are expecting at least 50% of the writers selected for this workshop to be full-time journalists.

AWDF will also include women from AWDF’s existing grantee organisations, and within our partner networks.

Benefits:

  • Full accommodation, meals and a partial travel grant will be provided to all successful applicants.
  • All applicants will be expected to be present for the ten-day duration of the workshop.
  • A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed by successful applicants to enable smooth running of the workshop.

Women Deliver’s conferences are the world’s largest global convenings to focus on the health, rights and well-being of girls and women. Building on the successes of Women Deliver’s three previous global gatherings—in London in 2007, in Washington in 2010 and in Kuala Lumpur in 2013—the 2016 Conference will bring together world leaders, advocates, policymakers, journalists, young people, researchers and leaders of the private sector and civil society to showcase what it means and how it works when women and girls become the focus of development efforts.

The conference, which will be held in Copenhagen from 16–19 May 2016, will be the largest gathering on girls’ and women’s health, rights, and wellbeing for more than a decade, and one of the first major global conferences following the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Scholarships for people 30 and older to attend the Women Deliver 2016 Conference are awarded to stand-out advocates who have proven their commitment to advancing the health, rights, and well-being of girls and women in their community and around the world. This opportunity includes:

  • A scholarship to attend the Women Deliver 2016 Conference on 16-19 May 2016 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • A chance to connect with a wide range of policymakers, donors, activists, and journalists from the highest levels to the grassroots to review progress, discuss challenges, and push for new and ambitious commitments toward improving the lives of girls and women.

2015 Mauritius-Africa Scholarships for Africans to study in Mauritius.

The Government of Mauritius is offering scholarships to 50 students from African States for full time undergraduate studies at any public tertiary education institution duly registered with the Tertiary Education Commission.
The Scholarship will cover a grant of up to MUR 100,000 per academic year for the duration of the programme to each student to cover costs of university fees and charges, economy class air fare from and to the country of origin of the student by the most economical route at the start and end of the studies, and a monthly stipend of MUR 8,300 for subsistence allowance.
Scholarship Worth:The Scholarship will cover:(i) a monthly living allowance of MUR 8,300,
(ii) tuition fees up to MUR 100,000 yearly , and
(iii) Student airfare (economy class) by the most economical route to and from Mauritius at the start and the end of the studies
Eligibility Requirements:

  • Candidates must have secured a conditional offer for an on-campus undergraduate programme on a full-time basis at a public tertiary education institution.
  • Be resident citizens of a member state of the African Union.
  • Scholarships shall not be awarded for:
  • top-up degree programmes;
  • foundation programmes; and
  • (mixed modes (distance and on-campus learning)
  • The duration of the award will be up to four years and the age limit for eligibility is above 18 years and below 25 years

2015 International ReSource Award for resilience in water management

The International ReSource Award for resilience in water management is a prize acknowledging social entrepreneurial thinking and leadership in implementing the principles of sustainability in water management.

The ReSource Award acknowledges social entrepreneurial initiatives which propose to develop, test or scale up new approaches for resolving existing social and/or ecological issues related to sustainable water management practices.

Examples include access to, use and supply of water, sanitation and hygiene in low, lower-middle and upper–middle-income countries as classified by the World Bank.

The prize combines financial and non-financial contributions (coaching/expert advice). Half of the total prize money of USD 150 000 will be allocated to three finalists (USD 25 000 each) from whom the winner (USD 75 000) will be selected. The winner will be supported during the following three years in developing, testing or scaling up his/her social entrepreneurial initiative.

ReSource Award criteria

The short and full proposals submitted will be assessed with regard to the following areas:

  • Social and ecological challenge: The proposal demonstrates a profound and authentic understanding of the social and ecological problem to be addressed.
  • Impact: The expected social, ecological and economic impact is clearly defined and in line with the scope of the ReSource Award.
  • Approach: The proposal outlines a compelling social entrepreneurial approach to address the defined challenge. The defined goal and expected impact can realistically be achieved with the approach presented.
  • Financials: There is a financially viable business plan in place based on clear and logical assumptions.
  • Competencies: A qualified team with appropriate skills and track record is in place.
  • Risk management: All relevant risk drivers and related prevention and risk mitigation measures are defined.

Process

Step I: Short Proposal

  • Participants are requested to answer the online questionnaire on their social entrepreneurial initiative by 31 May 2015, 24.00 CET.
  • All short proposals received by this due date will be assessed in June 2015 by a team of water and business experts based on previously defined criteria (see below).
  • Only forms completed in English will be accepted. Applicants who are unable to submit their application form electronically should contact the Secretary of ReSource Award.

Step II: Full Proposal

  • By end of June 2015, authors of the 10-12 best-ranked short proposals will be invited to submit a comprehensive version of their social entrepreneurial initiative online.
  • The submitted full proposals will be reviewed and assessed based on an extended catalogue of criteria.
  • Oral interviews with the applicants on 17 and 18 August 2015 will conclude the first round of the assessment.
  • The four to eight best-ranked full proposals will be invited for jury assessment.

Step III: Finalists

  • Three finalists will receive financial support (USD 25 000 each) in addition to six months of tailored coaching from experts to help them refine their proposals (October 2015 – March 2016).
  • One representative per finalist will be invited at the end of this period to travel to Zurich, Switzerland, to present their social entrepreneurial initiative to the international jury that will select the winner of the ReSource Award.
  • The decisions of the jury are final. Any recourse to legal action is hereby explicitly excluded.

Step IV: Winner

  • In addition to the USD 25 000 received while a finalist, the winner will be further supported financially (to a total value of USD 75 000, over three years) and non-financially from April 2016 to April 2019 to implement or scale up the winning social entrepreneurial initiative.
  • In all, the winner is supported financially with USD 100 000 and non-financially with specific coaching for up to 3.5 years.

2015 Scripps Howard Foundation Semester in Washington internship program, Washington USA

The Scripps Howard Foundation Semester in Washington internship program brings two international students per year to Washington, D.C., to work at the Scripps Howard News Service for a semester.

The internship is designed to give international students an opportunity to cover events in the U.S. capital, as well as to report and write feature stories for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire. Stories written by Scripps Howard interns may be published in newspapers across the United States.

Eligibility Requirement:

  • The internship is open to undergraduate journalism or communications students who intend to pursue careers in journalism after graduation.
  • Interns must be fluent in both spoken and written English.
  • Interns who are selected in the program will work in one of two periods: January to April or September to December.

 

The internship is sponsored by the Scripps Howard Foundation, which strives to advance the cause of a free press through support of excellence in journalism, quality journalism education and professional development.

Benefits:

  • International participants in the program are recruited and selected by the International Center for Journalists, which provides training and other assistance to journalists across the globe.

2015 Internet Society Africa Peering & Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) Fellowship Program (Full Funded to Maputo, Mozambique)

The 2015 Internet Society Africa Peering and Interconnection Forum (AfPIF) Fellowship Program is designed to offer opportunities to qualified applicants to attend the AfPIF-2015 event scheduled for 25 – 27 August in Maputo, Mozambique.

The AfPIF fellowship program provides an opportunity to qualified applicants to attend the AfPIF event in person with the aim to:

  • Share experiences on ways to improve running and administering of a new, or existing IXP
  • Business opportunity to meet potential IXP members
  • Promote public awareness and evangelism of IXPs and peering in general at the national and regional level
  • Advance and influence national/regional policies on peering and cross-border Internet interconnection
  • Provide a face-to-face networking opportunity for peers and experts

Fellowship Award Package

AfPIF fellows will receive partial or full fellowship consisting of;

  • Air ticket to and fro Maputo, Mozambique
  • Hotel accommodation for the duration of the event

Fellowship Eligibility

  • Applicants should be individuals active engaged in Internet policy, business and or technical development relating to peering and transit.

Selection Criteria:

  • Residency in Africa
  • Have the necessary aptitude for public speaking
  • Be actively involved in Internet peering policy, business and technical matters at the country/region
  • Have a Good awareness of the connection landscape within their country/region
  • Have previously performed in, or be working towards the development of an IXP

Consideration is for those resident in Africa

Wanted: Young, passionate people to speak up at the World Forestry Congress 2015 ( Fully Funded to Durban South Africa)

Forest 2015 is looking for passionate and inspiring youth speakers to make a TEDx-style presentation at the youth special event during the XIV World Forestry Congress. If you are involved in a youth-led initiative or project established and run by young people to engage communities, we want to hear from you!

Benefits:

  • The Organizers will pay your travel, accommodation and registration costs for the full week of the Congress, 7-11 September, in Durban, South Africa.

Who can apply?

Are you:

  • 18–35 years old? (this includes students and young professionals in this age group)
  • Actively involved in a youth-led initiative or project created to benefit people, forests and the environment?
  • Interested in sharing your success stories and lessons learned with the global forestry audience?
  • Interested in having your project/initiative profiled at the XIV World Forestry Congress?

How to apply?

To be considered as a youth speaker, please prepare the following:

  • a short informal video (no more than 5 minutes) introducing yourself and the project/initiative – this can be recorded on your cellphone, as it’s what you say and show that counts, not the video quality. You can post your video online and include a link in your submission, or attach the video file to your entry (max 10 MB).
  • a short text about your initiative (no more than 400 words)
  • a photo of yourself and any photos (no more than three) that show your project/initiative

You can submit your video, text and photos by email to yemi.adeyeye(at)fao.org with katherine.clyne(at)fao.org in copy.
Please put ‘Youth Speakers entry’ in the subject line.

If you have already submitted a video as part of the Congress call for abstracts, please let us know and we will include it for review in your submission.

Selection process

All entries will be posted on the #Forests2015 blog. First-level selection will be based on the number of comments and “likes” that your entry attracts. Final selection will be based on the quality of the entry and made to ensure a diversity of speakers (gender, topic, language and continent).

Specifically the organizers will look for:

  • impact and or potential impact of youth-led initiatives
  • Projects that adopt cross-sectorial or integrated land-use approaches (forestry, agroforestry, watershed etc.)
  • projects that bring together young people of diverse backgrounds
  • engaging stories

Key Dates:

15 June 2015: Participation deadline
30 June 2015: Notification of results
