2015 Phandulwazi nge China Scholarship Programme for visiting scholars from Africa

Phandulwazi nge China (isiXhosa for Understanding China) scholarships offer opportunities for African researchers to spend research time at the Centre for Chinese Studies (CCS). The aim is to advance mutual learning and a better exchange on interpretations of the impact of Chinese engagement in Africa, expanding the African knowledge base.

The Phandulwazi nge China scholarship targets citizens of African states from academia or the broader civil society with a proven research interest in China-Africa relations.

The programme particularly addresses African scholars who are preparing for a stay in China or are returning from a longer stay in China. With the scholarship, African citizens are supported to continue working on China and China- Africa relations and to deepen their analytical work.

The scholarship involves:

A fully funded 3-month visit at the CCS at Stellenbosch University, in the second half of 2015, including a fully funded short research trip to China during the stay at the CCS.
Providing space for-and strengthening experience in evidence-based research that feeds into policy recommendation.
Work and interaction with research within the CCS, with an opportunity for intellectual exchange and public engagement on a topic relevant for China-Africa relations.
Publication of research results in a CCS publication format.

Applicants must:

Be a citizen of an African state.
Have a strong social science, humanities, law or economics background.
Be diligent and reliable in their work and have proven strong writing and research skills.
(Basic) Mandarin language skills are not prerequisite, but will be an asset in the application

Application:

The CCS offers a scholarship for the time between August and October 2015.
Applications must include a full CV (max. 3 pages) and motivation letter of no more than 500 words.
A brief research outline (max. 750 words), with clear title, research question, abstract and methodology.
In addition to the research outline, include a short literature review and bibliography (max. 500 words excluding the bibliography)
Applications should indicate institutional affiliation
Scholars will be expected to compile their findings in a CCS Research Report

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Japanese Government Scholarship you must meet the following criteria:

Applicants must have the nationality of a country which has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government;
You need to be born between April 2, 1994 and April 1, 1999;
Applicants must either have completed a 12-year regular course of school education or have graduated from a school equivalent to an upper secondary school in Japan;
Applicants must be willing to learn the Japanese language and deepen their understanding on Japan;
Applicants must be physically and mentally healthy enough to pursue study at a university in Japan;
Selected applicants must acquire “College Student” visas before entering Japan. The visas should be issued at the Japanese diplomatic mission, located in the country of applicants, nationality;
Applicants must be able to arrive in Japan between the 1st and 7th of April 2016.

Scholarship Worth:

The Japanese Government will provide:

Monthly fee of 117.000 Japanese yens (In case that the recipient research in a designated region, 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added. The monetary amount each year may be subject to change due to budgetary reasons.);
Travel fee to and from Japan;
Accommodation at the Universities campus.

Created in 1998, the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science International Awards program identifies and supports eminent women in science throughout the world. Each year, five Awards Laureates are recognized for their contributions to the advancement of science, in Life or Physical Sciences in alternating years.

The 2016 edition of the Awards will designate five outstanding scientific researchers in the Life Sciences, working in one of each of the following regions: Africa & the Arab States, Asia-Pacific, Europe, Latin America, North America.

The solutions to attracting more women to science appear so obvious that few would disagree with them. L’Oréal-UNESCO should, in particular, instill confidence in girls from an early age by showing them their own potential. The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) is a joint international institution of the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) Group of States and the European Union (EU). Its mission is to advance food and nutritional security, increase prosperity and encourage sound natural resource management in ACP countries

Since 2009 CTA has successfully implemented a series of training events known as Web 2.0 and Social Media Learning Opportunities in 42 ACP countries. This has resulted in approximately 3,900 trained people, 38% of whom women. Feedback from beneficiaries (individuals and institutions) has been extremely positive. In May 2013 the project was awarded the WSIS Project Prize 2013 in the category e-agriculture.

Each event lasts for 5 days and accommodates approximately 25-28 trainees who are selected on the basis of applications submitted after an open call. One day of the training is devoted to the introduction to the IMARK module ‘Social Media for Development’. This allows trainees to perfect their skills through self-learning. In 2014/2015, CTA will extend the initiative to additional ACP countries in partnership with local host institutions.

Eligibility Requirements:

A CTA team coordinates the implementation of the project. The auxiliary staff will work under the guidance of the project team leader and in collaboration with the other team members.

Recent graduate, 29 years old maximum.
National of one of the ACP or EU States signatory to the Cotonou Agreement (79 African, Caribbean and Pacific States – http://www.acp.int/content/secretariat-acp – and the European Union Member States).
University degree in ICT or communication-related disciplines.
Experience and keen interest in the area of ICTs, Web 2.0 and Social Media.
Knowledge in managing CMS (Joomla) is welcome.
Experience in designing and administering online survey instruments is welcome.
Good organization, inter-personal and communication skills.
Thorough knowledge of one of the Centre’s two working languages (French or English) and a satisfactory knowledge of the other.

Jointly organized by the United Nations University and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the JSPS–UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme is designed to provide promising, highly qualified, young researchers with the opportunity to conduct advanced research relevant to the main thematic focus areas of the UNU Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS, Tokyo), in co-operation with host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutions. UNU acts as the nominating authority for the JSPS–UNU Programme.

This fellowship is aimed at candidates who have completed their PhD degrees in the past six years and also have professional and/or research experience. UNU will assist in securing acceptance from host researchers for short-listed candidates.

Required qualifications:

PhD degree (no ABDs) from a range of disciplines, most likely in the social sciences or humanities including but not limited to geography, public policy, political science, international relations or international law.
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential, proficiency in French and/or German is also useful.
Equally qualified candidates from developing countries as well as female candidates will receive preference.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be citizens of countries that have diplomatic relations with Japan. Japanese nationals are not eligible.
Applicants must hold a doctoral degree (which must have been received on or after 2 April 2009), when the fellowship begins or be scheduled to receive a doctoral degree before the fellowship begins.
Applicants with at least 10 months research and/or professional experience are especially encouraged to apply.

Fellowship Worth:

In an effort to promote human capital development, the IRENA Scholarship Programme was launched in 2012.

As part of the programme, up to 20 highly-accomplished applicants are annually awarded an International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) scholarship at the Abu Dhabi based Masdar Institute of Science and Technology (MI), with the generous support of the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

The IRENA scholarship programme offers various opportunities in addition to the Masdar Institute Scholarship. These include exclusive high-level lectures, aimed at presenting the latest developments in the field of renewable energies.

Furthermore, the scholarship programme offers: IRENA sponsored short term assignments to scholars on a case by case basis; opportunities for participation in IRENA events; internships; and most importantly, the opportunity to network.

Eligibility:

Relevant undergraduate degree from a college, university or technical college of acceptable standing in the field of science, engineering or information technology
Minimum CGPA required: 3.0 on a scale of 4.0.

The Denys Holland Scholarship aims to support undergraduate students from any country, who without the support of the scholarship would be unable to secure the funding required to study at UCL, and who can demonstrate their intention to make full use of the activities offered by UCL and the Student Union.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should be:

holding an offer of admission to UCL for full-time undergraduate study in any department;
in financial hardship, and be able to demonstrate that without the scholarship they would be unable to study at UCL;
preferably aged 25 or below at the time of commencing their studies;
able to demonstrate that they have broad interests and intend to be actively involved in and contribute to the life of the university.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial hardship, subject to applicants demonstrating their intention to play a full part in extracurricular activities of UCL and the Students Union.

Scholarship Worth

The scholarship is worth £9,000 per annum and scholars may choose to use all or part of the scholarship to cover fees. Any remainder is paid to the scholar as a maintenance stipend.
The scholarship is for one year in the first instance, but will be renewed subject to satisfactory progress, for up to a total of three years.
The scholarship may be held alongside other grants, bursaries, awards or scholarships, provided annual total funding does not exceed the cost of fees plus a reasonable sum for maintenance in any one year (as determined by UCL).

A Common Word Among the Youth (ACWAY) is a global initiative that will be led by young people, of different faiths to build bridges of co-existence by means of dialogue and action.

It is expected to be filmed as part of a TV documentary series to be aired on satellite TV for millions of viewers to be inspired and get involved.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the ACWAY Programme you must:

A TV documentary with some of the young leaders involved highlighting the challenges and barriers to co-existence and some of the solutions
A comprehensive media campaign on co-existence and cultural diversity, using TV, Radio, print media as well as social media.

The project will run from January 2015 – July 2016, with a view to continue beyond that with sustainable activities and projects delivered by young people in partnership with local NGOs as well as public and private sector involvement.

The Pollination Project and Levi Strauss & Company are partnering to offer seed grants and support to young people involved in a wide variety of environmental programs all over the world.

The Youth Environmental Grantmaking program includes:

20 seed grants of $1000 each made to youth who are involved in grassroots environmental projects
Second-round funding of up to $5000 per project offered in Fall 2015
Promotional support for certain projects
Capacity building and leadership development training offered through Youth Empowered Action Camp.
Special priority consideration for projects recommended by the New Leaders Initiative of the Earth Island Institute.

Eligibility:

Individuals aged 22 or younger who are starting up or leading an environmental project anywhere in the world.

The European Solidarity Centre, New Eastern Europe, Eastbook.eu and the Marshal of Pomeranian Voivodeship are organizing the 11th edition of the Solidarity Academy, an international educational project aimed at maintaining and developing the tradition of the Solidarity Movement.

This year it will be held from 6th to 13th September 2015 in Gdańsk,Poland gathering 16 young journalists who will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and learn new skills.

The aim of this year’s Solidarity Academy is to raise awareness among young journalists about aspects of multiculturalism and solidarity with nations fighting for freedom as well as integrating young contributors to New Eastern Europe and Eastbook.eu. The Solidarity Academy will help to create a space for journalists from different backgrounds to meet, share and exchange experiences and initiatives.

Workshops will be both theoretical and practical. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in shared activities but they will be also divided into comfy groups and smaller teams during the journalistic task in Kaliningrad.

The result of the journalistic workshops will be the final publication and the debate/panel discussion in Kaliningrad – fully prepared by the participants with the support of experts. The working language of the Solidarity Academy is English. One of the main goals of the project is to create a programme of Solidarity Academy Graduates which will allow the participants to maintain contact and engage together in other projects.

Eligibility Requirements

The Solidarity Academy is open to international young journalists and writers.

2015 Earth Journalism Network Climate Communications Innovation Fund ($USD50,000 Grants)

The Earth Journalism Network has created the Climate Communications Innovation Fund to support the development, adaptation, and introduction of novel story telling methods focused on the human dimensions of climate change.

Communities living in regions with climatic changes that undermine their livelihoods face a two-way problem: a lack of capacity to have their perspectives heard and barriers to receiving information on the drivers of change. Causes range from unintelligible information to difficulties in sharing solutions to a lack of media coverage and critical communications infrastructure that result from a history of marginalization and poverty.

This grant opportunity represents a challenge to journalists throughout the world to facilitate a responsive information ecosystem that more accurately and holistically reflects environmental challenges facing people across the planet.

The Grant:

This grant fund will support up to 5 projects with each grant amount averaging for approximately 10,000 USD

Type of Projects Supported:

The primary focus of this grants opportunity is on the application of technology and novel techniques for climate change communication.
Open to applications that include fellowships and travel grants that support specific story ideas or coverage of key events, so long as these activities have a clear relationship to the innovative components of the project.

Eligibility:

The Climate Communications Innovation Fund is designed primarily to support the work of already existing media outlets, journalism networks, and associations where an additional funding is need to pursue innovative or experimental approaches.
Individuals or new ventures are eligible for this funding.
Applicants should provide information about sustaining about this project after the initial seed funding provided under this grant.

How to Apply:

Grantees are expected to give their full cooperation in monitoring and evaluating the results of the projects, and are encouraged to submit their own monitoring and evaluation plan along with their application. The final monitoring and evaluation plan will be agreed upon by EJN and each individual grantee.
Applications should include a budget using this form
The projects are generally expected to take place within less than a year. Projects that can show results before the start of the COP21 Climate Summit in early December, 2015 will receive particular interest. Final reports for accepted projects must be filed no later than February 10, 2016.
Projects that can offer or raise co-financing to complement EJN’s support will be favorably viewed.

Orange is launching the call for applications for the 5th edition of the Orange African Social Venture Prize. This initiative aims to encourage innovative start-up projects which help to accelerate development on the African continent.

The Orange African Social Venture Prize showcases entrepreneurs offering innovative products or services that meet the needs of Africans in fields such as health, agriculture, education, energy, industry or trade.
Over the past four years, 2,000 projects have been submitted for the Orange African Social Venture Prize, reflecting the dynamism of African entrepreneurs and the potential of the telecommunications sector in Africa.

Eligibility/Who Can Enter

Any entrepreneur (aged 21 or over) or legal entity that has been in existence for fewer than three years may participate at no cost and with no restriction on nationality.
Submitted projects must be designed to be deployed in at least one of the 17 African countries in which Orange operates and must use information and communications technology in an innovative way to help improve the living conditions of the populations in these countries.

Prize:

The prize will recognize three projects with grants of 10,000, 15,000 and 25,000 euros, along with six months of support from Orange experts.
The first prize will also be offered a patent registration in the country of the project’s deployment.

Voting:

Internet users are also invited to vote online for their favourite project on Orange’s entertainment portal in Africa, StarAfrica.com.
The winner of the “Favourite Project” will have its project submitted directly to the jury along with the other project finalists.

It is aimed at journalists and bloggers with at least three years of experience, and who hope to advance their knowledge in the area of sciences.

The Fellows get the opportunity to attend the Falling Walls Lab, Falling Walls Venture and the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin on 8 and 9 November 2015 in Berlin.

The Equator Prize 2015 will be awarded to 20 outstanding local and indigenous initiatives that are advancing innovative solutions for people, nature and resilient communities.

Winning initiatives will join a prestigious network of 187 leading community-based organizations from 70 different countries that have been awarded the Equator Prize since 2002.

Each winning initiative will receive USD 10,000 and be supported to participate in a series of policy dialogues and special events at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP21) in Paris, France in December 2015.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the Equator Prize 2015, nominees must:

Have been in operation for at least 3 years;
Be a community-based and/or indigenous or local group, operating in a rural area; and
Be within a country receiving support from the United Nations Development Programme, excluding countries with a high level of development.

2015 United Nations Alliance of Civilizations/BMW Group Intercultural Innovation Award (USD$100,000+ Prize)

Since 2011, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group have engaged in a historic partnership geared towards creating a new model for collaboration between the private sector and the UN system.

Together, they have established the BMW Group Award for Intercultural Innovation, in support of the Alliance of Civilizations, under the auspices of the United Nations (otherwise known as The Intercultural Innovation Award), whose mandate is to select highly innovative grassroots projects that promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, making vital contributions to prosperity and peace.

The main objective of the Intercultural Innovation Award is to identify and support innovative projects that are already being implemented and have potential for expansion and replication. The Award is given to the organization that is implementing the project with the overall objective of helping the organization to expand and adapt the project to other contexts.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General which aims to improve understanding and cooperative relations among nations and peoples across cultures and religions, and to help counter the forces that fuel polarization and extremism.

The Intercultural Innovation Award will be bestowed upon ten organizations

Monetary Prize:

Awardees will receive a monetary prize to be used for project expansion and/or replication of their project. The total amount of the prize pool is USD 100,500 distributed as follows:

1st Prize: USD 40,000

2nd Prize: USD 20,000

3rd Prize: USD 15,000

4th Prize: USD 8,000

5th Prize: USD 5,000

6th–10th: USD 2,500

THE AWARDS TRAINING AND CAPACITY-BUILDING

In order to increase the effectiveness of awarded organizations in their work to expand or replicate their project, the UNAOC and BMW Group have developed an Intercultural Innovation Award training and capacity-building program.
Awardees will gather twice during the one-year of support to participate in a multi-day capacity-building workshop addressing issues such as scaling up, financial sustainability, human resources management, communication skills, marketing and use of social media. Workshops will be facilitated by expert trainers as well as BMW Group associates.
In addition, organizations will be offered the chance to participate in a series of webinars and other training opportunities in various topics of interest to them.

CUSTOMIZED SUPPORT AND MENTORING

Awardees will draw from one-year active support and consulting from the UNAOC and the BMW Group in order to help them to become more efficient and to expand, as well as enable their transfer to other contexts or settings where relevant.

RECOGNITION AND VISIBILITY

Awarded organizations will be invited to participate in the 7th UNAOC Global Forum where the Awards Ceremony will take place in the presence of hundreds of Heads of States, ministers, media and civil society organizations.

INTERCULTURAL LEADERS MEMBERSHIP

Awardees will become members of “Intercultural Leaders”, a project of the UNAOC in partnership with the BMW Group. Intercultural Leaders is an exclusive skills and knowledge-sharing platform for civil society organizations and young leaders that work on addressing cross-cultural tension.

SELECTION OF FINALISTS

Ten finalists will be selected by an international jury of experts composed of scholars, practitioners and one member of both the UNAOC and the BMW Group.
Applications will be assessed using the comprehensive set of criteria outlined below. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed during early 2016.

FINAL EVALUATION AND DECISION

Awardees will be invited to present their projects at the 7th UNAOC Global Forum. The final decision of the international jury of experts regarding the ranking of award recipients will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the UNAOC Global Forum

2015/2016 Norwegian Government Quota Scholarship Scheme for Students from Developing countries to study in Norway

Applications are now open for the Norwegian Government Quota Scholarship scheme for Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD Students from Developing Countries at universities and university colleges in Norway 2015/2016 .

The main objective of the Quota Scheme is to contribute to capacity building through education that will benefit the home country of the students when they return. The Scheme is also intended to strengthen relations between Norway and the selected countries and thus contribute to internationalization at Norwegian institutions of higher education.

Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. The institutions involved are allocated a certain number of students under the programme each year. Most of the programmes offered are at Master’s or PhD level, but the Quota Scheme also offers certain Bachelor’s study programmes.

Students usually apply for degree programmes that serve as a continuation of their studies in their home country or for courses which can be a joint part of a degree programme in their home country (joint degree or sandwich programmes). Language Requirements:

Most of the study programmes offered under the Quota Scheme are taught in English. Applicants who are not native English speakers therefore must document their proficiency in English.

A few courses in the Quota Scheme are offered in Norwegian and require good skills in the Norwegian language. Students admitted to study programmes that are mainly taught in Norwegian may receive additional financial support for studying Norwegian language for one year prior to their study.

Admission to the Quota Scheme is highly competitive and meeting the minimum requirements is no guarantee for enrollment.

The Programme attracts young talent to the Organization and provides them with:

A better understanding of the Organization’s goals and objectives and how international police cooperation is organized;
An insight into how an international organization operates;
A framework to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments, thereby developing skills which are useful for their career and future employment;

Eligibility

All applicants must:

Be a national of a member country;
Have attained the legal age of majority in their country of nationality;
Be fluent in English;
Be enrolled in, or have graduated from, an accredited academic institution within the past six months on the date of submission of the application.

Having a good knowledge of any of the other official working languages regularly used in the duty station where the Internship will take place (French, Spanish or Arabic) will be considered an advantage.

Location:

The majority of INTERPOL’s internship opportunities are based in the General Secretariat in Lyon, France.
Other opportunities may arise in any of the other duty stations where the Organization has a presence: the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation in Singapore as well as the Regional Bureaus and Liaison Offices.
Applicants are welcome to indicate their preferred area of activity in their application, taking into account the duty station(s) where they normally take place.
Internships may be offered in any of the above-mentioned locations, depending on the needs of the Organization and candidates’ profiles.

Duration:

The length of an internship varies from a minimum of six to a maximum of 11 months

Stipends:

Interns are entitled to receive a monthly allowance of 550 euros (the amount set for internships based in Lyon).
The allowance will be adjusted to the different duty stations according to the UN cost of living index and it will be prorated according to the number of days worked if an internship does not start at the beginning of a given month.

The aim of the Youth Dialogues is to foster the increase in the number of young people peacefully and actively participating in African elections and governance processes based on an appreciation of the significance of their demographic superiority. It is therefore a useful platform through which African youth have an opportunity to interact as they interrogate and deepen the understanding of issues of mutual interest pertaining to the development and transformation of the Continent.

Participants will be drawn from all regions of Africa (North, West, Central, East and Southern Africa) using set criteria.

Youth opinion is a priority for the United Nations! AIESEC and the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth are launching a video contest as part of the #YouthNow campaign leading up to the High-Level Event of the General Assembly hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.

Join the contest for a chance to have your video formally featured as part of the digital surge leading up to and during the High-Level Event of the General Assembly hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on 29 May 2015. The event will be attended by over 1,000 people from around the world, including Ministers and youth leaders! Your video can help inform the online conversation and will be tweeted formally from the UN Youth Envoy account.

The French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) is organizing a competitive examination to recruit doctoral students for a period of one to three years:

6 doctoral students, enrolled in a French or foreign university, who will receive a doctoral grant for a period of 1 to 3 years, depending on the university year of their first thesis enrolment (3 years for students who first enrolled in 2015
2016, 2 years for those who first enrolled in 2014-2015 and 1 year for those who first enrolled in 2013-2014). The monthly remuneration in 2014
2015 was 1,684.93 euros gross (1,359 euros net).
Doctoral students with external funding (employment / doctoral contract with a body other than INED) but who wish to be hosted without remuneration at INED and to benefit from its scientific environment.

Eligibility:

A Master’s degree (M2) or equivalent qualification in a discipline related to population science (demography, economics, epidemiology, history, sociology, etc.) M2 defended before 17 June at the latest.
Applicants must be enrolled in a PhD programme in a French or foreign university at the start of the 2015-2016 academic year.
The first year of PhD thesis enrolment must not be earlier than 2013 (2015-2016, 2014-2015 or 2013-2014 academic years).
Applicants of all ages and all nationalities are eligible.
The student’s application must be supported by at least two advisors, including at least one INED researcher
The thesis supervisor may be a non-INED researcher, but applications from students whose PhD is supervised or co-supervised by an INED researcher will take priority.
Applications must be uploaded and accepted on the website by 20 May 2015 at the latest (with the exception of Master’s dissertations and defence reports completed after that date).

2015 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application ($10,000 Prize)

The $10,000 Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application, endowed by the Rockefeller Foundation, will be presented every October in Des Moines, Iowa, by the World Food Prize Foundation.

This award will recognize exceptional, science-based achievement in international agriculture and food production by an individual under 40 who has clearly demonstrated intellectual courage, stamina, and determination in the fight to eliminate global hunger and poverty.

The award will honor an individual who is working closely and directly “in the field” or at the production or processing level with farmers, animal herders, fishers or others in rural communities, in any discipline or enterprise across the entire food production, processing, and distribution chain.

Nominee Eligibility:

Nominees must be under the age of 40 (40th birthday not reached before World Food Day, October 16, of the year in which the award is presented).
Nominees must be actively working in the discipline, research area, position, or on the project(s) for which they are being recognized. They may be associated with a public or private educational, research or development organization or related entity.
Nominees remain eligible for consideration beyond the year of their nomination, at the discretion of the Award Jury, as long as the award criteria and age requirement are met.
The award is intended to be presented to one person. In unusual and rare circumstances, another person may share the award for pronounced collaborative efforts and achievement.

Nomination Documentation

A concise statement (3000-word limit) explaining and describing:
1) the nominee’s work and accomplishments, with details and examples that illustrate several of the criteria
specified for this award;

3) the impact or results of the nominee’s work.
Nominee’s Curriculum Vitae or resume, including date of birth, country of origin, education, and professional background.
One (1) nomination letter and two (2) letters of support describing, explaining and emphasizing the main achievements of the nominee must be provided with the nomination. Due to the high volume of nominations, please do not submit more than two support letters.
Photos: A head shot of the nominee is required (minimum 300 dpi resolution); 2 additional action photos of the nominee at work may also be submitted.

Who Can Nominate:

Any individual or organization may submit a nomination. Nomination letters from organizations must be signed by an executive officer. Self-nominations will not be accepted.
Nominators should have a direct knowledge of the nominee’s work and should provide a number of specific examples, explaining how the nominee’s accomplishments align with the award criteria.

Letters of support may come from individuals or organizations with a direct knowledge or a basic understanding of the nominee’s work.

Announcement of the Award:

The recipient of the Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application will be announced to the public and the media in the period of August/September.

Presentation of the Award:

The Norman Borlaug Award for Field Research and Application will be presented in a ceremony during World Food Prize Week events in Des Moines, Iowa, on or near World Food Day, October 16.
