Resilience Innovation through Scaling Entrepreneurship (RISE) Urban Challenge 2025 (US$50,000 in funding)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Resilience Innovation through Scaling Entrepreneurship (RISE) Urban Challenge. The Global Resilience Partnership (GRP) is launching the Resilience Innovation through Scaling Entrepreneurship (RISE) Urban Challenge to convert innovative urban ideas that are meeting resilience needs in informality contexts and scale them to sustainable ideas. The RISE Urban Challenge provides customised support to maximise each initiative’s potential for impact and aligns potential funders to these initiatives and drive attention to the urgent need for urban systems transformation.

Requirements

  • RISE is open to urban entrepreneurs, innovators, organisations or consortiums of organisations across the private sector (start-ups, SMEs), and civil society and grassroots organisations based in low- and middle-income countries.
  • RISE encourage and welcome proposals from youth-led and women-led organisations.

Benefits

  • Selected projects will receive a tailored leadership and mentoring programme,  communications support, and be connected to investors.
  • Subject matter experts will facilitate a leadership academy for the selected entrants.
  • They will also be connected to potential investors and partners from GRP networks.
  • Winners can be awarded prizes up to US$50,000, which will support their scaling and implementation over 12 months up to December 2026. 

Timeline:

  1. Application deadline: 11 April 2025
  2. Screening: The first phase of screening will be done to identify finalists that will proceed to the Leadership Academy and mentoring. Shortlisted projects will be announced in  June 2025
  3. Leadership Academy and tailored mentoring: June – September 2025

  5. Winners’ activity implementation:  through December 2026

Applications are now open for the 2025 Africa Organization for Standardization (ARSO) 12th Continental Essay Competition. The SABS is a member of African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO). ARSO is an intergovernmental body, established by the African Union and UNECA in 1977 with a principal mandate to harmonize African Standards and conformity assessment procedures in order to reduce Technical Barriers to Trade and therefore promote intra African and International trade as well as enhance industrialization of Africa. Part of the ARSO mandate is to ensure the well-being and safety of the African community. As an African organization, ARSO’s vision and mission are aligned with any efforts made to eradicate poverty, educate the youth, and foster a culture among the youth.

2025 Theme

Role of Education about Standardisation (EaS) in shaping Education and African Students for the sustainable Development opportunities and challenges in the 21st Century.

To participate in the competition, students must submit their essays to the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS).
The SABS will assess and award the top 5 national winners.The top five winning essays will be forwarded to ARSO as entries in the continental competition. All essays must be well-written, demonstrate creativity and innovation, as well as understanding of the theme for assessment – as guided in the subsequent continental concept note. In addition to the continental requirement, the SABS further requires that essays must be properly formatted (structured and justified) and properly referenced.

Entry Requirements

  • This competition is open to all South African students currently registered at any tertiary institutions in South Africa, as recognized by the National Department of Education and Council of Higher Education.
  • Interested foreign students at South African tertiary institutions are encouraged to submit their essays to the countries of their origin.
  • Participants must be 35 years old or younger. Information and rules of participation in the competition are included in the concept note.
  • Essays should be between 1000 and 1200 words. The essays should be double spaced and presented in Century Gothic, size 12.
  • Essays must be written in English.
  • All essay entries, including a duly completed stamped registration form (attached) and a copy of Identity Document or passport, must be submitted to: ESSAYCOMPETITION@sabs.co.za by Monday, 31st March 2025. •
  • Participants are allowed to submit one essay only.

Call For Solutions: 2025 UNDP Youth4Climate Global Innovation Challenge for Youth and Youth-led organizations (US$ 30,000 in seed funding)

Applications are now open for the Y4C’s Call for Solutions is a global innovation challenge for Youth and Youth-led organizations working on climate action focused projects. The Call aims to fund new and existing youth-led solutions that are ready to implement or scale, and to support the further development of young people’s ideas and projects by providing relevant learning opportunities with the support of partners.  

Since 2023, through the first two rounds of its Call for Solutions, Youth4Climate has allocated an envelope of USD 2.5 million in direct funding to 100 youth-led climate projects across 52 countries.

Requirements

In 2025, the Youth4Climate Call for Solutions launches its third round of funding opportunities for young people aged 18 to 29 and youth-led entities. Applicants to the Call for Solutions can request up to USD 30,000 in seed funding and successful applicants will also benefit from:   

  • Connections and visibility at country, regional and global levels that may enable scaling and growth of their projects.  
  • Capacity development offers include a mentorship programme consisting of group workshops, one-to-one mentorship, and project pitching and feedback opportunities.   

Requirements

  • Young Individuals aged 18 to 29 and who meet the remainder of the eligibility criteria (see Call for Solutions guidelines) 
  • A legally registered, youth-led civil society organization (CSO), non-governmental organization (NGO), community-based organization (CBO), or company with the majority of the organization’s leadership being young people aged 18-29 years at the time of submitting the application. Please note that the project lead for the organization should be aged 18 to 29 
  • The proposed project must be implemented in one of the countries listed in the Call guidelines.

Download and fill out the Budget and Workplan template. Prepare a 3-minute video pitching your solution using the instructions provided in the Call for Solutions Guidelines.

Each year since 2022, students and young graduates from around the world come together in teams of 2 to 5 to come up with an innovative solution on the topic: adapting and living together in the face of climate risks.

Citi Foundation 2025 Global Innovation Challenge:Youth Employability ($25 million in funding)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Citi Foundation Global Innovation Challenge. The Citi Foundation’s Global Innovation Challenge is an open call for applications or request for proposals (RFP) designed to provide catalytic grant funding to community organizations across the world. This year, the Foundation invites proposals from community organizations developing innovative employment solutions for low-income youth primarily between the ages of 15 and 24.

Funding Overview

The Foundation plans to award grants of $500,000 (USD) payable over two years to 50 community organizations working in select communities where Citi has a presence.
• Grants are meant to be catalytic in nature, supporting the piloting or expansion of ideas and projects in the field of youth employability.
• In addition to grant funds, the Citi Foundation will seek ways to support the selected grantees through volunteerism as well as hosting learning opportunities to promote shared lessons and best practices.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Applicant organizations must be registered as nonprofit entities under local law. For example, for U.S. entities, applicants need to be tax-exempt public charities as per Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code.
  • Applicants must be able to submit their most recent externally audited financial statements, including auditor’s notes, covering some part of calendar year 2023 or a subsequent year.
  • Applicant’s proposed program must align with the Foundation’s mission of supporting low-income communities as defined by local standards and definitions.
  • Applicant’s proposed program must impact one or more of the target geographies

Africa

  • Algeria, Cameroon, Côte D’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Zambia

ECOWAS African Forum on Research and Innovation (FARI) Startup Competition 2025 for young ECOWAS Startups

Applications are now open for the 2025 ECOWAS Startup Competition. The African Forum on Research and Innovation (FARI) is the ECOWAS forum dedicated to the promotion ofScience, Technology and Innovation. Its creation was the subject of a decision (A/DEC/.1/6/21) by the eighty-sixth Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government. This is the decision establishing and organizing the African Forum on Research and Innovation of ECOWAS (FARI).

For this second edition, ECOWAS approved the establishment of the Jury for the selection of the three (03) best Start-ups in the regional competition and the Scientific Committee of the Forum. FARI-2025 involves the participation of start-ups, experts and Ministers of ECOWAS Member States in charge of Science and Technology, the President of the Republic of Benin (host country) and the Chairman-in-Office of ECOWAS.

Objective

  • Select three (3) start-ups at the national level to take part in the regional exhibition during FARI;Award the three (3) best start-ups at the regional level.

Expected Results

  • Three (03) start-ups at the national level are selected;T
  • he three (03) start-ups selected at the national level participate in the exhibition during FARI.
  • The three (3) best start-ups awarded at the regional level.

Eligibility of start-ups

Start-ups must meet the following conditions:

  • Come from an ECOWAS member country;
  • Have their headquarters in an ECOWAS member country;
  • Be less than five (5) years old;
  • Respect the rules and deadlines for submission

The competition is open to any start-up that meets the eligibility conditions. It takes place in two (02) stages:

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Photo Competition 2025

Applications are now open for the 2025 United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Photo Competition. The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the Global Water Partnership (GWP) are joining forces to launch a photo competition that highlights the global challenge of water scarcity and its impacts on land degradation. 

The UNCCD, dedicated to combating desertification and mitigating the effects of drought, and GWP, a multi-stakeholder network championing integrated water resources management, are uniting to showcase creative and practical solutions to these pressing challenges. This competition aims to inspire hope and action, drawing attention to innovative ways communities and ecosystems can become more resilient to drought.

Categories

Each photo submitted must align with one of the following categories. Participants should indicate the chosen category in the submission.

  1. Technological and AI solutions: Innovations in water management, drought monitoring tools, and smart irrigation systems that help reduce water scarcity and protect land from degradation.
  2. Governance solutions: Policies, community-led initiatives, and institutional strategies that support water and land management in times of drought.
  3. Gender-responsive solutions: Showcasing the role of women and gender-sensitive approaches in creating sustainable responses to drought and land degradation.
  4. Nature-based solutions: Ecosystem restoration, agroforestry, and natural infrastructure approaches that utilize the power of nature to mitigate drought impacts. 

Guidelines:

  • Photos must be taken ethically, ensuring respect for privacy and dignity, particularly when capturing images of individuals and vulnerable communities. 
  • Contestants must clearly outline the permissions for the use of their photos, in compliance with GDPR. Personal information should not be visible without proper consent. 
  • Each submission should include a brief description of the context, location, and solution highlighted in the photo. 
  • Only one photo can be submitted per contestant, and it should be in high-resolution JPEG/JPG or PNG format. 
  • Minimal retouching of color or light exposure adjustments are permitted to enhance the image’s natural quality. However, entries featuring heavily retouched photographs or those generated using artificial intelligence (AI) tools will not be considered.

Prizes:

  • Semi-finalists: Their photos will be featured in an online exhibition. 
  • Finalists: Their works will be exhibited at UNCCD Headquarters in Bonn during the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought (WDD) on June 17, 2025. 
  • Winners: Each category winner will be given a 500$ gift card from the International Center of Photography or the Fotografiska Museum.

Timeline:

  • The competition will be launched at UNCCD COP 16 in Riyad.
  • Submissions are accepted until March 31, 2025.
  • The winners will be announced in May 2025.

UONGOZI Institute’s Youth Leadership Competition 2025 for young Africans (USD $2,000 & Fully Funded to Kampala, Uganda)

Applications are now open for the 2025 UONGOZI Institute’s Youth Leadership Competition. The Youth Leadership Competition is organised as a component of the African Leadership Forum (ALF) to provide a space for the youth of Africa and the next generation of leaders in the region to contribute to important discussions on leadership and sustainable development.

In each contest, African citizens between the age of 18 and 25 are asked to write about their perspectives on leadership as it relates to a theme tied to the ALF.  

The essays are rigorously evaluated on the basis of originality, organisation, creativity, appropriateness to contest theme and the use of language. The winners get the opportunity to participate in the ALF plenary session and receive their awards at a prize-giving ceremony – in the presence of distinguished delegates from the forum.

Guidelines

  • This competition aims to provide an opportunity for the youth of Africa and the next generation of leaders in the region to share their perspectives on leadership as it relates to accelerating the SDG implementation in Africa. It is open to all African citizens (including the diaspora) between the age of 18 – 25. The essays should respond to the following question:

    If you were an African leader, how would you accelerate the implementation of SDGs on the continent?

    All essays must be typed. The minimum length is 500 words, and the maximum is 700 words. The format shall be of single spaced, Arial font size 11 with page margins of 1 inch (2.54 cm) for each margin, and sent as a Microsoft Word document.


PRIZES

  • Up to five winners will be selected. Winners will be asked to create posters to visually describe their ideas. The posters will be showcased at the ALF.
  • Winners will receive their awards at a prize giving ceremony to be held during the ALF Gala Dinner. The ceremony will be attended by senior leaders from across Africa, representing public, private and third sectors.
  • A grand prize of USD $2,000 will be awarded to the overall winner, and they will be asked to read their essay at the dinner event.
  • Selected winners residing outside Uganda will be required to have valid travel documents for travel. UONGOZI Institute will cover the costs related to their travel, including visa fees, air ticket and accommodation.

Borlaug International Dialogue, the Innovate for Impact Challenge invites forward-thinking entrepreneurs from around the globe to present breakthrough technologies aimed at revolutionizing agriculture. This initiative aligns with the World Food Prize Foundation’s mission to elevate innovations and inspire action toward alleviating global hunger.

Eligibility Criteria

The Challenge is open to early-stage, for-profit startups in the AgTech space. Eligible companies must meet the following requirements:

  • Demonstrate innovation, market potential and alignment with sustainability goals
  • Be in early stages of development, from validated concepts to pre-Series A funding
  • Have at least one founder working full-time on the project

Startups will be evaluated on:

Applications are now open for the 2025 ICC-ITC-WTO MSME Group Small Business Champions Competition.
Are you an organization that supports the circular business model? Are you a non-governmental organization that empowers small businesses and entrepreneurs become sustainable? Are you owning a small business implementing or wanting to scale sustainable innovations?

Launched for the first time in 2021, the World Trade Organization’s Informal Working Group of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, together with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and the International Trade Centre (ITC), and this year in partnership with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), are calling for innovative ideas that help small businesses participate and contribute to the circular economy.

With this competition, your ideas will not only raise awareness among businesses and policymakers of the diversity and opportunities for a circular economy but will also promote best practices in supporting the sustainability and resilience of small businesses, and their participation in international trade through efficient, innovative and zero-waste business models.

Requirements

  • Initiatives that can include awareness-raising campaigns, competitions, capacity building, training, mentoring and networking programmes related to the circular economy.
  • Small businesses active in the circular economy with an innovative business concept that, through its operations, reduces, prevents or repurposes waste in equivalent conventional business models.

Award details

  • The winner(s) will be invited to travel to Geneva for the award ceremony on 26 June 2025, sponsored by ICC and ITC. The International Trade Centre will additionally award each winner $4,000 prize money to support the development or further scaling of their winning project and issue an award certificate.
  • Moreover, training and mentoring opportunities will be discussed with each winner according to their needs, while winning submissions will be promoted by ICC, ITC, UN Trade and Development and the WTO MSME Group through their communication channels.

Requirements

  • Entries must be for work published in calendar year 2024 (between 1 January 2024 and 31 December 2024)
  • Entries have to be submitted via our online form.
  • Entries have to be received by February 28th, 2025 at 11:59pm ET, to qualify.
  • Applicants can enter as many projects as they want.
  • Entries have to specify if they qualify as a large or a small newsroom or as an individual, where applicable. Small newsrooms are defined as those with 35 or fewer journalists (including regular freelancers/contractors), or equivalent (eg, two half-time freelancers count as one person.)
  • Organizations that do not qualify under this definition but who believe they belong in the small newsroom category may petition for an exception by sending a letter from the editor-in-chief explaining his or her rationale to sigmas@gijn.org.
  • Collaborative work has to be entered as a large newsroom.

ISC3 Innovation Challenge in Sustainable Chemistry and Climate Change 2025 (€15,000 Prize)

Applications are now open for the 2025 ISC3 Innovation Challenge in Sustainable Chemistry and Climate Change. The annual ISC3 Innovation Challenge is thematically oriented along a once-per-year selected focus topic. Start-ups globally are invited to contend for a total of 25,000 EUR in prize money with their innovative ideas that are revolving around the ongoing year’s focus topic.

Focus Areas:

  • Use of renewable energy sources for energy supply in chemical transformations, incl. electrochemical conversions, Power-to-X technologies, photocatalytic processes, green hydrogen
  • Substitution of fossil feedstock by non-food biomass/waste organic material and conversion to chemicals and materials
  • Chemical conversions using CO2 as feedstock (CCU) and carbon capture technologies providing CO2 as feedstock, incl. also Direct Air Capture
  • Chemical production technologies decreasing CO2 emissions by minimizing energy use
  • Easy to implement selective catalytic/non-catalytic reduction technologies for nitrous oxide in chemical production plants
  • Mitigation technologies for other GHGs in chemical production processes

Eligible participants:

  • Eligible are all innovators and entrepreneurs, i.e., persons owning or representing the proposed innovation, employed by organisations including research institutes, start-ups, small-medium sized enterprises, or comparable institutions active in the development and realisation of sustainable chemistry solutions.
  • Enterprises participating in the challenge shall have a staff headcount not exceeding 50 (full time equivalent) and an annual turnover of max. 10 million Euro. Enterprises majority-owned by large enterprises are not eligible for the award, except for innovations leading to the creation of independent spin-offs.
  • Proposals submitted by innovators and entrepreneurs from developing countries and tackling challenges in developing countries are considered as particularly important. Female entrepreneurs are specifically encouraged to submit a proposal.

Criteria:

The proposals will be assessed against the three main criteria:

  • Innovation level. Is the innovation unique, distinct, and truly original?
  • Business viability. What is the market potential of the innovation? Is the idea commercially feasible?
  • Sustainability. What is the sustainability impact of the innovation?

Applications are now open for the 2025 Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition. The Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition celebrates and nurtures purpose-driven ventures that seek to address inequities in education through innovation.

The Milken-Penn GSE Education Business Plan Competition (EBPC) is open to applicants worldwide advancing teaching and learning through innovation. Finalists get targeted venture development support from a strategic advisor, opportunities for in-person networking with investors and potential customers.

Eligibility


  • The EBPC welcomes entrepreneurs with innovative ideas in education from around the world.
  • Applicants are encouraged to explore how their product or solution can be applied to address issues in the field of education and impact teaching, learning, and education outcomes.
  • Additionally, organizations entering the competition may not have generated more than the equivalent of US $2,000,000 in gross revenue during the prior twelve (12) months before the date the organization submits its Application Form.

  • $40,000: Michael & Lori Milken Family Foundation Grand Prize

Finalists are required to participate in the EBPC Finals for the opportunity to win cash and prizes. Language

  • Please note that all eligible participants will be invited to take part in peer reviews: once the application phase closes, you will each be asked to review 10 applications each. Doing so will give you access to exclusive feedback roundtables with the community.

The World IP Day 2025 Youth Video Competition celebrates the role that music and intellectual property (IP) rights play in our lives. The Competition invites individuals or group participants to submit a 60 to 90-second video that captures the connection between music, IP rights, innovation, and creativity that’s shaping our future.

The theme of the Competition is “Tuning in with the music of innovation and creativity”. Think about how IP rights enable innovation and creativity in music. How do IP rights support creators, inventors, and entrepreneurs in the music industry? How is innovation shaping the future of music? 

Requirements

  • Entries can be submitted by individuals or groups of individuals. You may enter one individual entry, or you may join with your friends and submit a group entry, but you cannot do both.
  • Individual entries must be submitted by individuals aged between 18 and 35 years old at the time application is submitted.
  • Group entries may include up to 10 participants, with at least one member being no older than 35 years old at the time the application is submitted.

WIPO is looking for videos that highlight how innovation, creativity, and IP rights are shaping a better future for creators, inventors and entrepreneurs worldwide. Videos may focus on one or more of the following themes:

Voices for IP: Share stories of individuals advocating for IP rights in the music world, emphasizing how IP rights empower creators, artists, and entrepreneurs to build sustainable careers in the music industry.

Video Requirements

  • Your video is in MP4 format and is between 60-90 seconds long.

  • Women-led oncology companies seeking pre-seed, seed, and Series A investments are eligible to apply. The company must have a woman in senior leadership, who has an equity stake – could be Founder or C-level executive. 
  • The applying company must have technology ownership in place.

Selection Criteria

  • All submitted applications will be reviewed and screened by our Selection Committee based on the quality of applications. 6-8 semi-finalists will be chosen around late April and invited to compete in front of a Judging Committee in June to select finalists who will be recognized and awarded honorariums and certificates.

  •  The company that passes the due diligence process will receive up to $1 million in investment from AIM-HI and co-investors.

Simplified Rubric for Design Brief:

The Design Brief is a two-page executive summary of your design project. The brief should be written for an audience of medtech engineers and designers who may not be as familiar as you are with your clinical and solution space.

Content

Design Briefs will be evaluated by following four criteria. We recommend the design brief is laid out in sections devoted to each criteria.

  1. Problem description (25%)
    • Define the problem you are addressing, the clinical/healthcare background, and why there is a need for a better solution.
  2. Solution concept(s) (25%)
    • Present your proposed solution with your design rationale and explain how it meets the needs of the stakeholders involved in your clinical/healthcare problem.
  3. Reduction to practice (25%)
    • Describe the proof-of-concept experimental results you have completed and/or renderings and photos of your prototype(s).
  4. Pathway to implementation (25%)
    • Describe the pathway that lies ahead for your project towards creating an impactful solution.

The World Bank Group Youth Summit returns for its 12th edition, inviting young people to engage with the most urgent issues their generation faces, while bringing together thousands of participants from across the globe. This year, the summit will center on innovation in climate action, digital transformation, and the creative industries.

The Youth Summit is the World Bank Group’s largest annual event for youth (ages 18-35) worldwide. It will be held on May 19-20, 2025, featuring activities and engagements both at the World Bank Group headquarters in Washington DC and across various regions.

The WBG Youth Summit Pitch Competition is a flagship event of the WBG Youth Summit 2025: New Horizons: Youth-Led Innovation for a Sustainable World. This competition showcases the transformative power of youth-driven solutions in shaping a sustainable and inclusive future for all. It provides a global stage for young entrepreneurs, change-makers, and innovators to present their unique ideas and solutions to today’s most pressing development challenges.

Themes:

The 2025 World Bank Group Youth Summit invites young changemakers, innovators, and leaders to shape a sustainable and inclusive future through bold, youth-driven solutions. Under the theme “New Horizons: Youth-Led Innovation for a Sustainable World,” this year’s summit focuses on three transformative areas:

  1. Digital Transformation & Data: Discover how youth leverage technology, including AI and big data, to drive economic growth, bridge the digital divide, and create a future-ready labor market.
  2. Climate Action & Resilience: Explore innovative solutions for green technologies, smart cities, and sustainable agriculture, showcasing how young leaders can combat climate change while creating job opportunities.
  3. Creative Industries: Highlight the role of arts, media, and fashion in fostering employment, social and economic change, promoting sustainability, and preserving cultural heritage.

Eligibility

  • All team members are between 18 – 35 years old, on the date of the application deadline.
  • Each team member should be from one of the World Bank Group member countries.
  • The solution should address at least one of the three thematic pillars (Data Driven Transformation, Climate Action & Resilience, Empowering Change through Creative Industries). Cross-thematic and scalable solutions across more than one pillar are also accepted for consideration. 
  • Applications must be received before January 26th, 2025, 11:59 pm EST.

Benefits

  • Travel expenses, including lodging and a nominal stipend for up to three nights, will be covered for one representative per team. The representative is required to obtain a valid U.S. visa for their travel. Other team members can participate in the event through the virtual platform.
  • They will also be offered an opportunity to pitch to potential investors, get tailored mentoring, and receive admission into the inaugural World Bank Group Youth Summit Alumni Network, as well as other virtual and in-person initiatives to elevate the finalists’ stories and solutions throughout the World Bank Group network.

Applications are now open for the 2025 World Bank Group Competition Advocacy Contest.  This contest aims to highlight the key role competition agencies, sector regulators and other governmental bodies or non-governmental organizations play in promoting competition by showcasing their advocacy success stories.

The contest is looking for success stories from competition agencies, other public bodies or civil society that demonstrate the tangible results of competition advocacy under four themes:

1. Supporting resilient and competitive value chains to enable private investment, jobs, and consumer welfare

2. Embedding competition principles in policies to manage state assets: SOEs, privatization and public private partnerships  

3. Enhancing public procurement and curbing bid rigging for government savings

4. Advancing competition through public-private dialogue

How to Apply:

  • Competition agencies, sector regulators and other government bodies and non-governmental organizations promoting competition policy are welcome to apply.
  • If you are not a member of the ICN, you should reach out to the ICN member in your jurisdiction to inform about your intention to participate in the contest. Selection Process:

Submissions will undergo a rigorous assessment of the following criteria:

Requirements

  • RAIN is open to not-for-profit organisations across public, local civil society, international NGOs and academia, as well as for-profit organisations, farmers, and entrepreneurs in East Africa (Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda).

Benefits

  • Winners will be connected with potential funders, receive a tailored mentoring program, and communications support to refine their messaging. In addition, they will be invited to an investor forum and pitching session in-person or virtually.
  • Experts will facilitate a leadership academy for the shortlisted candidates.

The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) are thrilled to announce the sixth edition of the Space4Youth Competition. The authors of the best 5 essays will be provided with a trip to the United States to meet with representatives of the U.S. space sector and attend an Adult Space Camp at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Eligibility criteria

Priority will be given to participants from developing countries.

  • The competition is open to all students and young professionals from any Member State of the United Nations.
  • All participants shall be of the age between 18 and 35 inclusive (up to the day of their 36th birthday) on 28 February 2025.
  • The competition is open to individuals – no team submissions are allowed.
  • Competition organizers and judges are not eligible for the competition.
  • The United Nations encourages all qualified applicants, regardless of gender, disability, sexual orientation, cultural or religious backgrounds, to apply.

Topic of the competition  

“Empowering Youth for the Future of Space: Inclusive Opportunities, Skills Development, and Accessible Pathways”

Applications are now open for the 2025 develoPPP Ventures Ideas Competition. Suitable start-ups to be funded through develoPPP Ventures are selected during an open call for applications, which takes place several times a year for six weeks at the end of a quarter.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The company is registered in the target country OR plans to register there prior to the investment
  • The company is privately owned and profit-oriented • At least one annual financial statement is provided
  • A viable business plan and a financial plan is available
  • The company is operative and has generated first revenues from operating activities (Proof of Concept)
  • The company should not have acquired more than a maximum of EUR 2 million in funding to date


The current develoPPP Ventures call for applications (November 15 to December 31, 2024) takes place in Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. The application and selection process is supported by a team of local experts who will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Funding

  • DEG Impulse and GIZ provide non-dilutive capital of EUR 100,000 (and a top-up for successful Ventures in a potential second phase)
  • The company must receive matching funds equaling the amount of the non-dilutive capital in the form of cash injection from other investors.

Competition focus/ themes

Participants are required to choose from one of the following themes, and be creative with the title and content of their Essays:

Evaluation Criteria

Entries will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Originality and Creativity: Uniqueness of ideas and the creative approach to presenting them. Essays must be original works and should not have been previously published. Plagiarism and AI generated essays will automatically result in disqualification.
  • Relevance: The extent to which the blog addresses the outlined themes.
  • Potential Impact: The anticipated impact of the content on the audience and wider community.

Prizes

First three winners of the essay competition will receive the following:

  • Cash prize (1st – $300, 2nd – $200, 3rd – $100)
  • Certificate of recognition

IFT Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge 2024

Applications are now open for the 2024 IFT Seeding The Future Global Food System Challenge. Hosted by the Institute of Food Technologists and funded by the Seeding The Future Foundation, the Challenge is intended to support innovations that have the potential for significant impact at scale and over time, and benefit at least one or more of the following intersecting domains: nutritious food for a healthy diet; sustainably produced; and accessible, appealing, affordable, and trusted by consumers.

Eligibility Requirements

The following organizations are eligible to compete in the Challenge:

  • Non-profits located in any country
  • Academic or research institutions located in any country
  • Early stage or emerging for-profit companies located in any country*

Awards

  • Seed Grants ($25,000 each) will be awarded to organizations that are planting and nurturing high-potential, innovative ideas and have developed a prototype and/or initial proof of concept demonstrating feasibility. Innovation must benefit at least one, ideally two domains of the Innovation Focus Area without negatively impacting the others.
  • Growth Grants ($100,000 each) will be awarded to organizations that have demonstrated that their innovation is doable and have projected both economic feasibility at scale and high-impact potential to transform the food system. The innovation must benefit at least two, ideally three domains with no negative impact on the others.
  • Seeding The Future Grand Prizes ($250,000 each) will be awarded to organizations that have created innovations that are scalable, economically feasible at scale, trusted, and compelling to consumers, and have demonstrated major impact potential to transform the food system. The innovation must benefit at least two, ideally three domains with no negative impact on the others.

Requirements

To be considered for the Challenge, applicants must be majority African-owned and managed private companies and organizations (including non-profit and not-for-profit) registered and operating in any of the following countries in Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo (South Kivu), Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mauritania, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia).

Applications will only be considered if they:

  • Are African-owned and passports or other government-issued IDs showing citizenship are submitted o Majority of shareholders, members of the board and senior management must be citizens of a sub-Saharan African country •

Applications are now open for the 2024 FirstBank Fintech Innovators Pitch Programme. FirstBank is hosting its 6th annual Fintech Summit with the theme “Banking on Partnerships”. Scheduled to take place on the 13th & 14th of November 2024. It will feature a series of engaging sessions, keynote speeches, and networking opportunities.

As part of this event, FirstBank is launching the Fintech Innovators Pitch Programme to support early-stage fintech startups and foster innovation in the financial services ecosystem. The programme will provide selected startups with intensive training, mentorship. All towards the opportunity to pitch their solutions to FirstBank, investors, and industry leaders. Selected winners will receive support from FirstBank to bring their products to market, including strategic assistance, resources, and network access.

Through this programme, FirstBank of Nigeria aims to foster innovation, collaboration, and growth in the Nigerian Fintech ecosystem.

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the Fintech Innovators Pitch Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be an early-stage Fintech startup: Idea stage, working prototype, early traction, early revenue, seed.
  • Will be in Lagos and available for the pitch prep & pitch session

Applications are now open for the 2025 Trust for Sustainable Living (TSL) 2025 International Schools Essay and Debate Competition. The TSL competition invites students to share their original, creative, and expressive responses to the theme, From Eco-Anxiety to Eco Action & Empowerment.

Requirements

  • The International Student Competition is open to all students worldwide, aged 7-18 across two age categories – 7-11 years and 12-18 years

Prizes:

  • The overall Grand Prize Winner will receive a trophy and a cash prize of £1000 plus £500 for their school, with one Runner Up receiving a trophy and a cash prize of £500 plus £250 for their school (cash prizes paid in local currency). All participating Teacher Champions, Finalists, Honourable Mentions and International Debate participants, will receive personalised e-certificates.
