Applications are now open for the 2025 Tony Elumelu Foundation BeGreen Africa Entrepreneurship Programme.

Eligibility

  • The Programme is open to all citizens of the Selected Countries (as defined) who are aged 18 years and above. The submitted age of all Applicants must be supported with government approved means of identification.
  • All Applications must be for a Green Business Idea or a Business that must be for profit, focused on one business area only, and must be the original idea of the Applicant.
  • The Business or Business Idea must not be for an illegal or unethical purpose.

  • BeGreen Africa Programme:     This programme is open to entrepreneurs with green businesses in Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa, as well as waste management businesses specifically in Kenya. For existing businesses, registration must not exceed five years at the time of application. Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old.

The Programme is made up of the following stages all of which form the Programme cycle:

Verification & Onboarding
Applicants will be verified and onboarded by the Promoter. Verification will involve the submission of required documents by the Applicant in order to enable the Promoter to ascertain the state of the Business or Business idea as well as the identity of the applicant.

Successful Applicants who do not meet the verification requirements will be removed from the Programme and notified of removal via email.
Successful applicants who meet the verification requirements will be enrolled in the TEF Business Management Training programme.

Unsuccessful Applicants will be directed to take the TEF General Business Training on TEFConnect and will be eligible to reapply for other TEF Programmes.

Business Plan Preparation & Submission
Programme Participants who have completed the TEF Business Management Training Programme will receive a business plan template to develop a business plan document for review and assessment. This review and assessment will be based on relevant metrics including feasibility and sustainability. Programme Participants must submit their Business Plans by the required deadline to be eligible for consideration for the next stage of the programme.

The top scoring Programme Participants from this stage will be notified via email and will proceed to the Pitching Competition stage.

Any Programme Participant who does not complete this stage of the Programme within the prescribed timeline or is not successful at this stage will be removed from the Programme and notified of removal via email.

Pitching Competition
Top scoring Programme Participants shortlisted from the business plan stage will participate in the Pitching Competition where they will pitch their business plans to a panel of judges physically or submit their pitch videos to the Promoter.

Top scoring Programme Participants from the Pitching Competition will be selected based on predetermined selection criteria and will be eligible to receive the Seed Capital.

Programme Participants who are not selected from the Pitching Competition to receive the Seed Capital will be notified via email and will be categorised as TEF Trainees.

Any Programme Participant who does not complete this stage of the Programme will be removed from the Programme and notified of removal via email.

Seed Capital
The Selected Entrepreneurs from the Pitching Competition will be notified via email.

Disbursement of the Seed Capital will be made via electronic transfer into the Selected Entrepreneurs’ Business Bank Account. Banking and other charges may apply and shall not be borne by the Foundation. The total amount received may therefore be less than US$5,000 equivalent. TEF Partner funded entrepreneurs will receive seed capital in line with the partner commitments and this will be communicated in due course to Programme Participants who will be funded by partners.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Tony Elumelu Foundation Aguka Ideation Entrepreneurship Programme. The AGUKA IDEATION ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAMME Is a partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, UNDP Rwanda and the Rwandan Ministry of Youths and Arts to support 100 Rwandan entrepreneurs between 18 -30 with business ideas with a seed capital of $3000 each.

Eligibility

  • The Programme is open to all Rwandans (as defined) who are between the ages of 18 – 30 years. The submitted age of all Applicants must be supported with government approved means of identification.
  • All Applications must be for a Business Idea or a Business that must be for profit, focused on one business area only, and must be the original idea of the Applicant.
  • The Business or Business Idea must not be for an illegal or unethical purpose.

Programme Cycle

The Programme is made up of the following stages all of which form the Programme cycle:

The top scoring Programme Participants from this stage will be notified via email and will proceed to the Pitching Competition stage.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Tony Elumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Programme. The Tony Elumelu Foundation, which celebrated ten years of impact in 2020, is empowering a new generation of African entrepreneurs, through the TEF Entrepreneurship Programme.  Successful applicants receive a world-class business training, mentorship, non-refundable seed capital up to $5,000, and global networking opportunities.  The Programme is open to entrepreneurs across Africa, both new start-ups and existing young businesses, operating in any sector.

Eligibility: 

  • The Entrepreneurship Programme identifies outstanding African entrepreneurs who have start-ups or business ideas with the potential to grow.
  • Eligible Countries: African countries

  • The training has been tailored to educate and capacitise you in starting or growing your business to overcome the challenges faced by entrepreneurs across the African continent. 
  • The curriculum focuses on practical, iterative learning that is useful even long after the training period.  

The Programme, Participation & Disqualification  
1. The Programme is made up of the following stages all of which form the Programme cycle:

2. Successful Applicants are those Applicants who complete the Application form, attain the minimum application score requirements and are accepted into the Programme.  

3. Successful applicants will be enrolled into the TEF Business Management Training programme. 

4. Unsuccessful Applicants will be directed to take the TEF General Business Training on TEFConnect and will be eligible to reapply for other TEF Programmes. 

Verification & Onboarding 
5. Applicants will  be verified and onboarded by the Promoter. Verification will involve the submission of required documents by the Applicant in order to enable the Promoter to ascertain the state of the Business or Business idea as well as the identity of the applicant. 

6. Successful Applicants who do not meet the verification requirements will be removed from the Programme and notified of removal via email.  

7. Programme Participants are not allowed to designate their Business Partners to undertake any part of the Programme. All trainings, tasks and activities to be undertaken under the Programme shall be carried out by only the Programme Participants. However, Programme Participants may share the training points with their business partners to institutionalise the training for the success of the Business or the Business Idea. 

8. During the TEF Business Management Training Programme™ Participants’ progress will be tracked and assessed. The training shall be made available in English, French, Portuguese, and Arabic.   

9. Upon completion of the last week of the TEF Business Management Training Programme Participants will be assessed, and top scoring Programme Participants will be notified via email that they will be proceeding to the Business Plan preparation stage.  

10. Programme Participants who do not complete this stage or do not proceed beyond this stage of the Programme will be removed from the Programme and be notified via email.  

Business Training  
11. Once Successful Applicants are onboarded, they will proceed to the training stage and are granted access to undertake the Foundation’s proprietary TEF Business Management Training Programme™ . 

Business Plan Preparation & Submission 
12. Programme Participants who have been onboarded to the TEF Business Management Training Programme will receive a business plan template to develop a business plan document for review and assessment. This review and assessment will be based on relevant metrics including feasibility and sustainability. Programme Participants must submit their Business Plans by the required deadline to be eligible for consideration for the next stage of the programme. 

13. The top scoring Programme Participants from this stage will be notified via email and will proceed to the Pitching Competition stage.    

14. Any Programme Participant who does not complete this stage of the Programme or is not successful at this stage will be removed from the Programme and notified of removal via email.   

Pitching Competition  
15. Top scoring Programme Participants shortlisted from the business plan stage will participate in the Pitching Competition where they will pitch their business plans to a panel of judges or submit their pitch videos to the Promoter.  

16. Top scoring Programme Participants from the Pitching Competition will be selected based on a predetermined selection criteria and will be eligible to receive the Seed Capital.  

17. Programme Participants who are not selected from the Pitching Competition to receive the Seed Capital will be notified via email and will be categorised as TEF Trainees.  

18. Any Programme Participant who does not complete this stage of the Programme will be removed from the Programme and notified of removal via email.  

Seed Capital 
19. The Selected Entrepreneurs from the Pitching Competition will be notified via email.  

20. Disbursement of the Seed Capital will be made via electronic transfer into the Selected Entrepreneurs’ Business Bank Account. Banking and other charges may apply and shall not be borne by the Foundation. The total amount received may therefore be less than US$5,000 equivalent. TEF Partner funded entrepreneurs will receive seed capital in line with the partner commitments and this will be communicated in due course to Programme Participants who will be funded by partners.  


21. The disbursement of the Seed Capital will be by payment into the Selected Entrepreneurs’ Business Bank Account within 60 days after receiving complete and accurate business registration documents and business bank account details, and for any subsequent initiation of Seed Capital.

The Centre for Green Growth’s Training for Youth on Climate Adaptation and Leadership

Applications are now open for the 2025 Centre for Green Growth’s Training for Youth on Climate Adaptation and Leadership.

This training is being organized by the Centre for Green Growth emanating from the Global Centre for Adaptation and Care International “Toolkit for Youth on Adaptation & Leadership”.

The aim is to equip the youth with the right set of skills and knowledge to engage in climate adaptation action, policy and advocacy while paying particular attention to the needs of vulnerable groups in society.

The training will cover the various spheres of climate adaptation and the opportunities to bring out solutions to adapt local communities and vulnerable groups. 

Requirements

  • The in-person training will be held in Accra, Ghana in February, 2025. Slots are available for only 30 participants.
  • The participant with the best mini adaptation project idea will receive seed funding of $500 to implement the mini project idea.

Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarships 2025 for Teacher Training Students (Fully Funded to Japan)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Japanese Government (MEXT) Teacher Training Scholarships. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan offers scholarships to international teachers who wish to conduct research on school education at designated Japanese universities as Teacher Training Students under the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship Program as follow

Requirements

  • Nationality: Applicants must have the nationality of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.
  • Age: In principle, applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1990.
  • Academic and Career Background: Applicants must be graduates of universities or teacher training schools and have worked as teachers at primary/secondary educational institutions or teacher training schools (excluding universities) in their home countries for a total period of five years or more as of October 1, 2025.
  • Japanese Language Ability: Applicants must be willing to learn Japanese.
  • Health: Applicants must submit a health certificate in the prescribed format signed by a physician attesting that the applicant has no physical or mental conditions hindering the applicant’s study in Japan.

PERIOD OF SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship period is the necessary period for the completion of the accepting university’s training course, which should be between October 2025 (or the starting month of the course) and March 2027. Even if applicants arrive in Japan in September 2025, the scholarship period will start in October 2025. Extension of the scholarship period is not permitted.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Allowance: After arrival in Japan, 143,000 yen per month will be paid. A supplemental regional allowance of 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month will be added to the monthly scholarship amount for the grantees studying or conducting research in specially designated regions. Due to the situation of the Japanese Government’s budget, the amount of payment may be subject to change each fiscal year. If a grantee is absent from the university for an extended period, the scholarship shall be suspended for that period.
  • Education Fees: Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at universities are weaved.

Travel Expenses

  • Transportation to Japan: MEXT stipulates the travel schedule and route, and provides an economy-class airline ticket for the flight from the international airport closest to the grantee’s residence (in principle, the country of nationality) to an international airport in Japan used on the normal route to the accepting university.
  • Transportation from Japan: Based on the application by the grantee, MEXT will provide an airline ticket to grantees who shall complete the training course at the accepting university and return to the home country by the end of the final month of the scholarship period

Applications are now open for the Scaling Women’s Economic Empowerment Through Affirmative Procurement Reform (SWEEP) Programme cohort 2. Scaling Women’s Economic Empowerment through Affirmative Procurement Reforms (SWEEP) is an initiative focused on eliminating barriers that limit women-owned and led businesses (WOLBs) in Nigeria’s procurement sector.

This program will help enhance your affirmative procurement skills and knowledge, greatly empowering women in business. During the one-month course, you’ll learn how to bid for procurement contracts and create effective proposals and presentations. Additionally, the program will teach you about digital trends, how to use technology to increase revenue, improve social media presence, monitor consumer behavior, and create and manage business websites. You’ll also learn about affirmative procurement policies and strategies, including how to operate and thrive in an ever-fluctuating economy by identifying emerging opportunities and using automation and restructuring to pivot your business. Finally, you’ll have the chance to network with other women entrepreneurs and learn from experienced procurement professionals.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Women Entrepreneurs in Abuja: The business must be owned or led by a woman and operate within Abuja.
  • Commitment to Participation: Applicants must be committed to attending all training sessions.
  • Informal or Early-Stage Businesses: Priority will be given to businesses that are not yet fully formalized and require guidance in formalization.
  • Financial Flexibility: No strict financial requirements. Businesses with limited financial resources are encouraged to apply.
  • Willingness to Formalize: Applicants must be open to formalizing their business operations as part of the training.

Criteria for Women-Owned/Women-Led Businesses:

  • Women-Owned Enterprises: The business must be at least 51% owned by women.
  • Leadership Criteria: At least 20% women ownership and women in key leadership roles (CEO, COO, etc.) qualify.
  • Board Representation: Businesses with 30% female representation on the board will be prioritized.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Climate Entrepreneurship Exchange Programme. The Climate Entrepreneurship Exchange is your opportunity to connect with fellow students in Michigan and the North Africa region, build the business skills to create a climate startup and generate confidence to make an investment pitch. 

Beginning in February 2025, the virtual exchange will assemble students in small teams to identify a climate-related issue and create a business concept to address it.

This eight-week online certificate program will connect 1,100 undergrads across Michigan, Egypt, Libya, and Morocco. It provides an in-depth exploration of climate change, highlighting its urgency and the entrepreneurial opportunities it presents.

Applications are now open for the 2025 NRF-SAASTA DSI-National Youth Service Programme. The South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (NRF-SAASTA), a business unit of the National Research Foundation (NRF) on behalf of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) has the following opportunities;

2. Unemployed communications or journalism and media graduates (18 to 35) are invited to apply for a 12 months’ Community Service Project and Science Journalism Internship opportunity. Successful applicants will be deployed at the mainstream and community media outlets in specific district municipalities to produce stories for broadcast, online and print media about science, technology and innovation.

The Department of Science and Innovation-National Youth Service (DSI-NYS) programme is a component of the government’s overall National Youth Service (NYS) Programme , which was launched in October 2003 as a special presidential initiative to combat the high rates of youth unemployment by giving young people the chance to engage in volunteer work and skill-building opportunities.

Your project proposals should align with one of the following two thematic tracks:

Note: If you are an INGO and your organization is registered in one of the 36 OIC member countries (see below)* but not in any of the 12 targeted countries, you can partner with a local CSO registered in one of the 12 targeted countries and should apply through the local CSOs of these 12 targeted countries to implement the project there.

Accelerator format

The Accelerator will consist of two phases:

Phase 1

  • 100 CSOs will be selected to participate and will gain access to Module 1: Business Model Development.

Phase 2

  • 55 CSOs will be selected based on the Selection Committee’s assessment of their video pitches.
  • These CSOs will gain access to four additional modules on: Impact, Project Development and Management, Finance and Fundraising, Thematic module on Food Security.
  • At the end of Phase 2, 50 CSOs will be selected to receive grants of up to $40,000, based on the Jury’s evaluation of their final pitches.

b. Postgraduate level (Masters Degree and PhD) in all fields.

A. UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS: All applicants for undergraduate degree courses must possess a minimum qualification of Seven (7) Distinctions (As & Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificates, WASSCE/WAEC (May/June) only in the subjects relevant to their fields of study including English Language and Mathematics. Certificates should not be more than two (2) years old (2023 & 2024) for Non-African Countries and for African countries the age of certificate is one year (2024) only. Age limit is from 17 to 20 years. 

B. POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS: All applicants for Postgraduate degree courses must hold a First Degree with 1st Class or at least 2nd Class Upper Division. 

All applicants must have completed N.Y.S.C. Programme and the age limit is 35 years for Masters and 40 years for Ph.D. 

i) N.Y.S.C discharge or exemption certificates only are accepted; and 

ii) Evidence of readiness to be released by an employer.

Since the BEA countries are non-English speaking, applicants should be prepared to undertake a mandatory one-year foreign Language course of the Country of choice which will be the standard medium of instruction; 

(ii) All applicants for Hungarian Scholarship can apply for up to two fields of study in order of preference, and must visit the website: www.stipendiumhungaricum.hu which was opened Middle November to close 15th January, 2025. Complete the application form online;

(iv) All applicants for Russian Postgraduate Scholarship must have acquired their 1st Degree in Russia;

The Scholarship provides applicants with the opportunity to pursue studies at the Diploma, Undergraduate Degree and Postgraduate Master’s Degree level at the following institutions of higher education in Brunei:

Eligibility Requirements

  • Not exceed the age of 25, for Undergraduate and Diploma programmes, and the age of 35, for Postgraduate Master’s Degree programmes, on the first day of July on the year when the course/programme starts

Scholarship Worth:

  2. an economy class air-ticket to Brunei Darussalam from the scholarship recipient’s country of origin/ country of domicile prior to the commencement of the course and an economy class air-ticket from Brunei Darussalam to the scholarship recipient’s country of origin/country of domicile upon completion of the course;
  3. a monthly personal allowance of BND$500.00;
  4. a monthly meals allowance of BND$150.00;
  5. an annual book allowance of BND$600.00;
  6. accommodation at the residential college of the University/ Polytechnic;
  7. baggage allowance for shipment of the scholarship recipient’s personal effects to his country of origin/country of domicile upon completion of the programme, at a maximum amount of:
    • BND$250.00 to a country within the ASEAN region; or
    • BND$500.00 to a country outside the ASEAN region;
  8.  comprehensive insurance cover for the whole duration of the Scholarship. The scholarship recipient is urged to obtain additional insurance prior to his travel to Brunei Darussalam and for the whole duration of the Scholarship at his own expense.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be a full-time assistant, associate, or professor at a university or degree-granting research institution at the time of the application submission.
    • Post doctoral staff can only serve as a co-PI, not a primary PI.
  • Applicants must have received their PhD within seven years of submission (e.g., applicants in 2024 must have received their PhD in 2017 or later).
    • We consider exceptions for applicants who have been teaching seven years or fewer and had delays, such as working in industry, parental leave, leave of absence, etc. This exception request can be documented on the application.
  • Applicants can submit one application per round.
    • Faculty can only serve as a PI or Co-PI per round. Applicants cannot serve on two separate proposals.

The Commonwealth Startup Fellowship 2025 for early stage start-ups (Fully Funded bootcamp in Accra, Ghana)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Commonwealth Startup Fellowship. The Commonwealth Startup Fellowship will run for six months and is designed to ignite and elevate high-potential startups from low and middle income Commonwealth countries. The programme is made up of a combination of immersive in-person experiences and online learning, to provide participants with essential skills, cutting-edge knowledge, and a robust global network.  

The CSC and Imperial College London intend that by the end of the programme, entrepreneurs will be equipped to build thriving businesses, scale operations effectively, and drive job creation in their home countries. 

Fellow eligibility 

To be eligible for these Fellowships, prospective Fellows must: 

  • Be of at least graduate level;  
  • Be a citizen of or have been granted refugee status by an eligible low or middle income Commonwealth country;  
  • Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country;  
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English.  
  • Not have undertaken a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the last five years (at the time of taking up the award) 
  • Be available to undertake their fellowship from the prescribed start date 

In addition, they must demonstrate:  

  • Evidence of innovation, in terms of product, service, or market   
  • Active development for at least six-months and demonstrable commitment from team members   
  • A working minimum viable ‘product’, service and/or prototype   
  • Significant evidence of customer engagement or traction in the form of early sales or pre-sales . proof of interest or demand, signed contracts or other relevant evidence. 

Benefits

  • A cohort of 20 early stage start-ups will be recruited. One person from each business must be available to attend a two-week bootcamp in Accra, Ghana at the end of March 2025.
  • There is also the possibility for representatives from outstanding organisations to travel to London in the UK later in the year for a series of exciting capstone events.

Financial assistance

Each Fellowship provides: 

  • Approved return travel from the Fellow’s home country to the in-person bootcamp in Accra, Ghana. 
  • Accommodation, travel and catering for the duration of the in-person bootcamp in Accra, Ghana. 
  • Reimbursement of the standard visa application fee. 
  • Reimbursement of vaccination costs 
  • Access to a Fellow’s Grant Fund for business or participation-related costs

Applications are now open for the 2025 United Nations Information Service’s 63rd Graduate Study Programme. The Graduate Study Programme (GSP) at UN Geneva is the longest-running educational initiative of the United Nations, now in its 63rd year. This intensive two-week summer seminar provides an opportunity for participants to deepen their understanding of the United Nations and “International Geneva” through lectures, research, work in groups, visits to institutions, and networking.


The 63rd Graduate Study Programme will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from 30 June to 11 July 2025 under the theme: “UN80: United for a Better Future” and will focus on the implementation of the historic Pact for the Future in the year when the United Nations turns 80.The Programme will consist of morning lectures given by representatives of the United Nations, other international organizations, civil sector, and diplomats; workshops; visits to institutions; and work on group projects in the afternoons. Students will be divided into several working groups which will research different aspects of the Pact for the Future and its annexes and explore the overall way forward at a time when the multilateral system is facing numerous challenges. This research and drafting process will be student-led, with limited support from facilitators. 

Requirements

  • The Graduate Study Programme is open to all currently enrolled graduate students, who are between 22 and 32 years of age, are not employed full time, and are fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • eKnowledge of French is an advantage. 

Selection Criteria

  • In selecting participants, the Selection Committee will consider academic qualifications of the applicants, their extracurricular activities and achievements, relevant professional experience, languages spoken, as well as the applicants’ motivation, while trying to ensure fair gender and regional balance.
  • All candidates will be informed of the results in the first week of April 2025. Candidates are thus asked not to inquire about their application status until then. All decisions by the Selection Committee are final.

Internews’ Earth Journalism Network is pleased to announce an in-person fellowship program that will support selected journalists to attend and report from the 3rd United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC3) scheduled for June 2025 in Nice, France. 

The next UN Ocean Conference , scheduled to be held in Nice, France, from June 9-13, 2025, will be a vital inflection point to accelerate progress on the conservation and sustainable management of the ocean.  

These summits are focused on supporting the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14), which is to “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.”

Eligibility   

To be eligible for the fellowship, the applicant must: 

  • Be a professional journalist from or representing an established media house and reporting from any country with a coast. Applicants from countries in the Mediterranean region and low- and middle-income countries are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Have previous experience reporting on ocean issues (examples include threats to the ocean such as, IIU fishing, the impacts of algal bloom, acidification and pollution as well as innovative and actionable solutions to protect the ocean, such as technological advances to monitor ocean crimes, new multilateral agreements such as the Plastics treaty and High Seas treaty, funding mechanisms such as blue bonds, and policy measures such as Marine Protected Areas, fishing quotas, etc. 
  • Clearly indicate the kinds of stories they will seek to pursue while covering the conference.
  • Be available for the conference in Nice from 9 until 13 June 2025, arriving on 7 June and departing on 14 June.
  • Have a good command of the English language.
  • Share an up-to-date resume/CV.
  • Provide a letter of support from an editor, producer, or supervisor who can confirm that your news reports will be published or broadcast in an established media outlet. Freelancers are welcome to apply but must provide a letter of support from a media outlet for which they intend to report.
  • Provide recent, relevant and journalistic work samples which focus on ocean issues (preferably covering ocean governance/policies related to marine protection). These can be uploaded as documents or web links. Stories can be in any language as long as they are accompanied by a short English synopsis. Stories must have clear bylines and should have been published in the last 12 months.

  • Fellows will travel to Nice, France to attend the entire duration of the UN Ocean Conference negotiations, which will take place from June 9-13, with arrival planned for 7 June, and departure on 14 June. 
  • EJN will cover non-refundable economy-class airfare, accommodation, meals, travel medical insurance and ground transportation costs related to fellowship participation. Organizers will also facilitate the press accreditation process and provide logistical support relating to the trip. Please note that the process of obtaining any necessary visas is the fellow’s individual responsibility, though EJN will reimburse visa costs. Fellows will also receive a per diem to cover daily expenses during their time in Nice.
  • 5-8 journalists will be selected for the in-person fellowship. Prior to the start of UNOC, fellows will receive informational resources and technical support to help prepare for reporting at the conference. They will attend pre-COP virtual workshop to meet their cohort and media trainer, discuss reporting opportunities, and ask any questions to support pre-reporting and preparatory work.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Megatrends Afrika Fellowships. The Megatrends Afrika project is awarding three post-doctoral fellowships to African researchers. Megatrends Afrika is a cooperation between the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP) in Berlin, the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) in Bonn and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW).

Requirements

  • Preferably completed PhD in political science, economics, social sciences, geography, international relations, or relevant area studies;Originating from an African country
  • Strong research and publication track record in areas of relevance to the Megatrends Afrika project
  • Experience in scientific policy advice is an advantage

Research Topics 2025

We are interested in proposals for a Megatrends Policy Brief that tackles an issue of relevance to our three research themes:

  • Violent Actors and Transformation of Conflict: how violent conflict transforms political order; how megatrends such as technological innovation, digitalisation or shifts in global power relations affect armed conflict in Africa
  • Megatrends and Democratization vs. Autocratization: under which conditions megatrends such as demographic change, digitalisation, urbanisation or climate change promote democratization or autocratization.
  • Global Power Shifts and Multipolarity: how the role of external actors such as China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, the United States and others is changing Africa’s international relations and how African foreign policies are evolving in a more fragmented world. 

The Fellowship

  • Fellowships will be granted for a period of three months between March and October 2025, full-time. Fellows will conduct a research project independently or, if suitable, in collaboration with project team members or other IDOS, IfW and SWP colleagues – and contribute one paper to the project’s publication series. All fellows are expected to participate in project meetings, events and other relevant activities of their host institution during their stay.
  • For the duration of the fellowship, fellows will reside in the city of their host institution, i.e., in Berlin (SWP), Bonn (IDOS) or Kiel (IfW). Fellows will receive a monthly grant of € 2,800, an economy-class return trip between their place of residence and Germany as well as some financial support for public transport, mobile phone credit and other ancillary costs in Germany. At IDOS, the honorarium will be calculated based on the IDOS fee schedule applicable for external researchers. IDOS will remunerate on par with a stipend. Fellows who require a visa to enter Germany will be provided with a letter of support.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted as a single PDF document and must contain a one-page letter of motivation, an academic CV including a list of academic publications, a sample of 2 recent publications, copies of relevant academic transcripts and/or diplomas (no translations needed), a written concept note containing the description of the applicant’s project. The concept note should not exceed 2,000 words and include a discussion of the project/research topic, its academic and policy relevance, feasibility and theoretical and methodological grounding. The scope and ambition of the project should be appropriate for a Megatrends Policy Brief of 4-8 pages that will be finalized by the end of the fellowship.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) Writing Fellowships. The Johannesburg Institute for Advanced Study (JIAS) invites applications for its ninth Writing Fellowship programme, which will run from 1 April – 30 June 2025.

The 2025 Writing Fellowship centers on the theme of Global Blackness. At JIAS, we use the term “global Blackness” to signal our investment in exploring the multiplicity of Black experience, intellectual traditions, and perspectives as well as modes of Black theory.

The fellowship invites applications from established scholars, creative practitioners, and thought leaders, with preference given to individuals in, from or closely aligned to Global South contexts. Applicants should submit a clear motivation, outlining a definite writing project (such as a book in progress) or creative project (such as a new body of work) they plan to work towards over the residency period, as well as why Johannesburg (and JIAS) presents a meaningful location in which to nurture their practice. JIAS welcomes exploratory, interdisciplinary research projects, as well as collective-based projects. Past fellows have included novelists, poets, playwrights, scientists, independent researchers, and journalists.


Eligibility:

  • Writing Fellowship applicants should hold a PhD qualification and demonstrate meaningful engagement within their field(s) of research (such as publications and research projects).
  • Creative practitioner applicants need not have a PhD, but should demonstrate a strong track record of exhibitions, projects and interdisciplinary research.
  • Preference may be granted to applicants from or closely aligned to Global South contexts, as well as women and gender-diverse applicants of colour.

The scholarship is aimed for people who have a cultural idea, such as art, music, research etc, related to the UNESCO World Heritage list and are interested to connect the World Heritage site Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland with one or more sites around the World in a cultural or artistic way.

Requirements

  • The scholarship is international and can be applied by people from all over the World, such as artists, researchers or other cultural actors.
  • Region Gävleborg awards the Residence Scholarship to a person who has an idea related to the UNESCO World Heritage list and can connect the World Heritage site Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland to another World Heritage site in an artistic, cultural or researching way.

TWAS-CSIR Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2025 for young Scientists from developing countries.

Applications are now open for the 2025 TWAS-CSIR Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme. For young scientists from developing countries (other than India) who wish to pursue postdoctoral research in emerging areas in science and technology for which facilities are available in laboratories and institutes of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) of India.

Eligibility

Applicants for these fellowships must meet the following criteria:

  • be a maximum age of 45 years on 31 December of the application year.
  • be nationals of a developing country (other than India).
  • hold a PhD degree in a field of science or technology.
  • must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India or any developed country.
  • be regularly employed in a developing country and hold a research assignment.
  • be accepted at a CSIR laboratory/institution and provide an official acceptance letter from the host institution (see sample Acceptance Letter that can be downloaded below or included in the application form).  N.B. Requests for acceptance must be directed to the chosen CSIR host institution(s), with copy to the CSIR contact person.  This will allow CSIR to monitor requests and offer support or assistance in finding  suitable host institution(s), if necessary;
  • provide evidence of proficiency in English, if medium of education was not English;
  • provide evidence that s/he will return to her/his home country on completion of the fellowship;
  • not take up other assignments during the period of her/his fellowship;
  • be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.

Programme Details

  • TWAS-CSIR Postdoctoral Fellowships are tenable in CSIR research laboratories and institutes in India for a minimum period of six months to a maximum period of twelve months.

  • CSIR will provide a monthly stipend to cover for living costs, food and health insurance. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency. In addition, Fellowship awardees are entitled to subsidized accommodation.
  • The language of instruction for foreign scholars in CSIR laboratories/institutes is English.

The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) was first launched in 2013 by CIFOR-ICRAF with core partners including UNEP, the World Bank, and the Government of Germany. Meaningful engagement of youth and other typically marginalised stakeholders was a cornerstone of GLF’s operation from the beginning.

Duties and responsibilities

The primaryobjective of the Global Landscapes Forum interns is to provide support to the relevant GLF team, according to their expertise and interest. Interns tasks vary from team to team, as seen below:

  • The GLF Youth Program Team & the Youth in Landscapes Initiative (YIL):
    The YIL intern will support the GLF Youth Program Team in continuing the growth of the YIL network through community building and outreach, facilitating the Restoration Stewardsprogram and ensuring that all youth-related activities serve the broader youthcommunity, with a strong focus on regional needs and visions. Tasks couldinclude, but not limited to supporting with: planning for upcoming programs,setting up agendas and taking notes in meetings, creating social media content,leading teams of volunteers, research about great young professionals leadingchange, and much more. Education, knowledge and experience

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an MSc programme on Environmental Sciences, Sustainable Development, Environmental Communications, Environmental Education, Political Science Or similar field.
  • Alternatively, graduate from a BSc programme with 2 years’ experience (voluntary or otherwise) in the field of sustainable development, communication, communities or youth engagement.
  • Great command of the English language is necessary – other languages (especially Spanish, French, Portuguese) are an asset.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience with creating original material and content for social media and running social media campaigns is an asset.
  • Experience with online engagement, youth organisations, capacity development or event management is an asset.
  • Experience with WordPress, Canva and Trello is an asset.
  • Experienced in and/or comfortable with remote work is an asset.

Conditions

  • This is a full-time internship position.
  • GLF will provide compensation based on experience and location-based.
  • Period of Internship is expected to be 9 months, between February 2025 – December 2025.
  • Work location: home-based, preferably in CET time zone or similar, but all time zones are welcome.
  • GLF encourage youth, young women and youth from rural, Indigenous and local communities to apply for this position.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Harry Frank Guggenheim Emerging Scholar Awards. The Harry Frank Guggenheim Emerging Scholar Awards (formerly the Harry Frank Guggenheim Dissertation Fellowships) recognize promising researchers in their final year of writing a doctoral dissertation examining a salient aspect of violence.

The award is $25,000 for one year and contributes to the support of a doctoral candidate to enable the completion of a dissertation that advances the Foundation’s research interests described above in a timely manner. They are available only to students for support during the final year of Ph.D. studies.

The award does not support doctoral research. Applicants may be citizens of any country and studying at colleges or universities in any country. 

Eligibility

  • Applicants for an award must be Ph.D. candidates entering the dissertation stage of graduate study.
  • Usually, this means that fieldwork or other research is complete and writing has begun or will at the beginning of the award period. If analysis and writing are not far enough along for an applicant to be confident that the dissertation will be completed within the award year, an application should not be submitted.
  • In some disciplines, particularly experimental fields, research and writing can reasonably be expected to be completed within the same year, and in those cases, it is appropriate to apply.
