Home Grown Solutions (HGS) is an Acceleration programme focusing on growth and mature stage African healthcare companies, conceptualized in 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in a realization of the potential of local private sector solutions to strengthen the continent’s pandemic resilience.
HGS pilot featuring 5 East African HGS was launched in 2021, followed by a Pan-African expansion in 2022 supporting 14 HGS and another cohort of 9 HGS was supported in 2023. This year we are launching our 4th cohort from which selected HGS will receive highly customized advisory support delivered by a world class panel of experts.
Home Grown Solutions (HGS) will work in collaboration with your team to design and deliver a customized, four-month acceleration roadmap, to support your company’s specific growth needs across three key areas: technical and contextual advisory, investment readiness and matching to strategic partners.
The programme is co-founded by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and financially supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
In order to qualify, businesses must:
1. Be a for-profit and qualified company at the growth or mature stage with proven products or services
2. Strengthen Africa’s healthcare system
3. Be described as a Home Grown Solution
