ACRN Research Paper Competition 2014 (Competition for young researchers working on corruption)

The Anti-Corruption Research Network (ACRN) would like to invite submissions from young researchers for its annual anti-corruption research paper competition.

The anti-corruption research paper competition gives emerging scholars an opportunity to take up the challenge of filling important knowledge gaps in the field of corruption, present innovative approaches for measuring and understanding corruption and showcase new findings on what works and what does not in tackling corruption and ensuring sound governance.

Thematic Focus

This year’s contest will focus on the theme of cross border flows of the proceeds of corruption, as part of Transparency International’s “Unmask the Corrupt” initiative. The range of research questions and topics that qualify is very broad. They may include, among others:

  • Beneficial ownership
  • Secrecy jurisdictions
  • Denial of entry
  • Luxury investment

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible participants are graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, young professors (recipient of their PhD in the last 3 years) and practitioners under 35.
  • The length of the paper should not exceed 7000 words (not including footnotes and references).
  • The paper should use an internationally recognised formatting style for academic papers and include references and a bibliography.
  • Submissions can be based on recent (2012 onwards) work that has been published as a working paper.
  • However, papers that have been already accepted for publication by academic journals will not be accepted.

Awards

  • For the winning paper (chosen among the 3 best papers):
    • The paper will also be featured in the ACRN quarterly newsletter
    • Its author will receive a scholarship to attend the 16th IACC. The maximum value of this scholarship is 2000 Euros and it is not exchangeable for a cash reward.
  • For the 3 best papers (winning paper as well as 1st and 2nd runner-up):
    • The papers will be featured on the websites of the ACRN and the 16th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC).
    • The papers will also be included in the official IACC booklet which will be distributed to all participants, which include leaders of civil society organisations, governments, academia and the private sector.
    • Their authors will receive an Amazon gift card to buy books of a value of EUR 500

How to Submit:

  • All submissions for the ACRN Research Paper competition should be sent to [email protected] by 9 November 2014,
  • with the subject line “ACRN research paper competition”. The final submission should be in Word format.  For the purposes of verification, please include with the submission an up-to-date CV.

Winners will be notified by 9 December 2014.
