Application Deadline: 25 September 2022
Concerts SA is proud to launch its fifth Digital Mobility Fund (DMF) for musicians in South Africa. The Concerts SA Mobility Fund started in 2014 and the Digital Mobility Fund was initiated in 2020 as an active response to the challenges facing the live music scene due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Norwegian Embassy, and SAMRO, Concerts SA is administered by IKS Cultural Consulting and supported by our digital partner, Music in Africa. Each DMF grant will provide up to R30 000 to be used for small scale live music events that will be streamed live, or recorded for delayed broadcast. All concerts will need to be recorded with a live audience.
Requirements
- Applicants are required to create a band/artist profile on the Music In Africa website (www.musicinafrica.net). A Music In Africa profile allows music professionals to add a concise professional bio, pictures, videos, music and other career aspects. A Music In Africa URL link is required in the application form. Watch the video below to learn how to create a Music In Africa profile.
- Concerts need to take place between 15 November and 16 December 2022 or between 18 January and 15 February 2023. Streams of these concerts need to take place between 15 November 2022 and 15 February 2023. Applications from artists for their own projects are preferred.
- Artists must ensure the careful ownership and management of their music rights in their dealings with streaming platforms for this call-out, and in terms of future self-management.
- Successful applicants will receive a grant of R30 000. The Concerts SA grant may not cover the full costs of the production, therefore plans or evidence of income from ticket sales, partnerships, and any other additional support improve chances of success.
- Concerts SA will not take any responsibility for the health and safety of the musicians, crew and audiences at the venues. Health and safety protocols in accordance with government directives for the events are essential.
- Concerts SA does not consider applications for large-scale live events as it falls outside of our mandate.
- An independent adjudication panel will be responsible for selecting and approving the applications.
- Submitting an application does not guarantee you a support subsidy.
- The names of successful applicants will be published on the Concerts SA and iksafrica.com websites and no further correspondence will be entered into.
- Reporting is a prerequisite, and funding will be disbursed in two tranches. Final disbursement is dependent on accurate and approved reporting.
- Any documents uploaded need to be in PDF or image format (PNG or JPG).
