Idea trophy is a Unilever on-campus youth initiative that provides students with a personal development experience, working with one of Unilever’s brands in preparation for business life outside the classroom.
The objective of Unilever’s Idea Trophy is to contribute to youth development, grow a future talent pool and improve the quality of future graduate trainees by exposing them to industry expectations.
The students work with Unilever experts who help them translate their ideas into execution plans.
The Competition is in 3 stages:
- 1st stage is online registration and submission of business ideas.
- 2nd stage is presentation of business plans.
- 3rd stage Boot-camp and drafting of execution plans. 1st ,2nd and 3rd prize winners will be announced after this stage. The judging panel will comprise of senior business leaders.
Idea Trophy : Official Rules
1.Undergraduate and Masters students from all majors can participate in Idea Trophy.
2.Each team must be comprised of 3 students from the same university.
3.Each team should decide on a “representative” among three members.
4.The Team Representative will be the main contact person throughout the Unilever Idea trophy.
5.Composition of the team cannot change after phase one,which is the submission stage. All Ideas should be submitted before the deadline. Late submissions will not be accepted.
6.Ideas cannot be revised once they are submitted; but there is no limit to the number of ideas to submit at the 1st phase.
7.Communication and material submission will be accepted only through the official website. Any other form of submission and communication will not be accepted. Material submission should be related to Unilever‘s Lifebuoy brand only.
How to Enter
» In order to participate in the 1st phase, teams will register to (web address) and submit their business proposal and idea. Business proposal format will be provided by Unilever.
» At the end of the 1st phase, 20 proposals with the ideas amongst all entries will be selected to participate in the 2nd phase
» In the 2nd phase, selected teams will be asked to prepare and submit their business plans based on the approved proposal and idea. Business plan format will be provided by Unilever. The plans will be evaluated and 5 teams will be invited to present their business plans at the third and final phase.
» At the 3rd and final phase, the 5 finalists will have the opportunity to turn their business ideas into reality. All finalists will be required to attend 4 day boot-camp in Nairobi. During the boot camp, the teams will present to a panel of Unilever senior leaders and other experts. At the end of the boot-camp, 3 teams will be selected as “the winner team”. “1st runner up”, and “2nd runner up”.
Ideas can not be revised once they are submitted; only 1 idea can be submitted at phase 1
All ideas and projects will be submitted in English to (web address). Idea submission will be limited with the space given (max1000- 1500 characters with spaces)
Throughout the competition, participating teams will submit all necessary information on-line via (web page) and all contacts will be made via e-mail. Likewise, Idea Trophy Administration will provide all necessary information on-line via (web page) and via e-mail.
Submissions later than the specified deadlines will not be accepted.
Note: A team MUST consist of 3 students from the same university although the 3 making up the team can be from different faculties/years of study.

An all expense paid trip to Unilever South Africa for the winning team plus an ipad for each member of the winning team and you stand a chance to represent Africa at the Unilever super league in Singapore.

A laptop for each of the 3 members in the 1st Runner’s up Team
