Tubingen-South Africa Program 2017 – Cultural & Language Exchange Program for South Africans to Study in Germany (Fully Funded).

The Tübingen – South Africa Program is a cultural and language exchange program for South African students aiming to expose them to German culture and language. It also aims to bring about closer ties and understanding between the two countries. Students spend a month in Tübingen in a program designed to provide a broad spectrum of knowledge in a wide variety of subjects, from language to history to economics; as well as factory visits and sightseeing excursions which makes for an exciting month of multi-faceted learning.
Beneficiaries are 16 students from Tübingen’s partner universities:
  • Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University
  • University of Witwatersrand
  • University of Johannesburg
  • University of KwaZulu-Natal
  • University of Cape Town
  • Stellenbosch University

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Students registered for a full degree in 2016 & 2017
  • Students who are in their second year or later*
  • Must have an overall aggregate of 60%*
  • Have not yet traveled abroad
  • Must be able to travel to Germany for the month of January 2017
  • Must be a South African citizen OR hold a valid South African study visa for 2016 & 2017

Benefits:

 The programme covers the following expenses for successful applicants:
  • Successful Stellenbosch University students qualify for a travel bursary to cover their flight expenses.
  • Accommodation (including bedding & breakfast) in town for the duration of the programme
  • Breakfast, lunch & dinners during the week for the duration of the programme
  • Transport to and from the airport in Germany
  • All expenses related to official excursions on the programme that includes transport, entrance fees, meals and refreshments
  • Unlimited internet access for the duration of the programme
  • Study Material
  • One month bus pass valid within Tübingen
  • Access to all Tübingen University’s resources

Expenses to be covered by successful applicants:

  • Registration / Administration fees
  • Courier fees for visa application (where applicable)
  • Transport to and from the nearest national airport in South Africa
  • Meals over weekends
  • Pocket Money (Suggested amount € 350 – 400)
  • Students registered at other tertiary institutions are also responsible for flight tickets.

Timelines:

The applicable dates are as follows:
  • Application Deadline for Stellenbosch University students: Wednesday, 31 August 2016
  • Application Deadline for students from other South African partner universities: Friday, 23 September 2016 (Please note that you must also be nominated by your home university.)
  • Departure from South Africa: 6 January 2017 (provisional)
  • Return to South Africa: 31 January 2017 (provisional)
