Yale Young Global Scholars Program 2016 for High School Students around the World – Yale University,USA (Scholarships Available)

An official Yale University program, participants in the Yale Young Global Scholars Program for Outstanding High School Students can expect an amazing summer experience studying in beautiful campus lecture halls and classrooms, living in Yale’s historic residential colleges, eating in award-winning dining halls, meeting a talented community of fellow students, engaging with world-renowned professors, and interacting with extraordinary visiting practitioners.

The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is a very selective leadership-development program for high school students from around the world. The program is designed to bring together students with the talent, drive, energy, and ideas to make meaningful impacts as young leaders, even before they begin university studies.

Living on the Yale campus for two weeks during the summer, students in the program:

  • hone their abilities to think critically and flexibly;
  • engage productively with a diverse group of peers;
  • explore new and exciting ideas;
  • meet distinguished scholars and practitioners;
  • develop key communications skills.

Tracks

The program offers six intensive, interdisciplinary summer pre-collegiate experiences for 2016:  Politics, Law, and Economics; International Affairs and Security; Technology, Innovation, & Entrepreneurship; Applied Science & Engineering; Biological & Biomedical Science; and Sustainability, Energy, & Environment.

Politics, Law, & Economics (PLE)
June 19 – July 2, 2016

For students with interests in understanding American legal principles, economic ideas, and values and practices of government in historical and comparative perspectives.

International Affairs & Security (IAS)
July 8 – July 21, 2016

For students with interests in international relations and security and learning historical lessons about leadership.

Technology, Innovation, & Entrepreneurship (TIE)
July 26 – August 8, 2016

For students who are interested in how innovations science or technology become a reality.

Applied Science & Engineering (ASE)
June 19 – July 2, 2016

For students who want to explore the application of physical & computer sciences and engineering.

Biological & Biomedical Science (BBS)
July 8 – July 21, 2016

For students who want to delve deeper in the study and application of life sciences.

Sustainability, Energy, & Environment (SEE)
July 26 – August 8, 2016

Student Profile:

  • The Yale Young Global Scholars Program is designed to challenge top performing high school students with fast-paced, university-level material. Prior to arriving at Yale, students are required to do several hundred pages of preparatory reading and during the program will spend the majority of each day in lectures, seminars, and small-group discussions.
  • Participants also complete a major writing and presentation assignment in which they are asked to collaborate with a team of students. The academic work in the program is intense and each session covers a wide variety of material in two weeks.
  • A student in the program must have:
    • excellent academic record
    • demonstrated leadership potential
    • strong written and verbal communication skills
    • desire and ability to work cooperatively with peers
    • good work ethic
    • ability to read, analyze, and reflect on large quantities of difficult material in English
    • high standard of personal and professional conduct
  • A student in the program must have:
    • excellent academic record

  • Applicants to the program must have some high school to complete after they attend the program, and YYGSS accept applications from current high school sophomores or juniors only (or international equivalents, usually 16 or 17 years of age).
  • The program also does not accept applications from students who are current high school seniors (US grade 12), high school graduates, or college/university students.
  • Students who participate in the program often go on to attend very selective colleges and universities, including Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Oxford, UC Berkeley, and University of Chicago.

Yale Young Global Scholars Program Arab Student Leadership Award Scholarships

The Yale Young Global Scholars Program (YYGS) is launching the Arab Student Leadership Award, a full-tuition and travel scholarship that will be awarded to up to 10 outstanding high school students from the Middle East to attend the program at Yale this summer.

YYGS is a summer enrichment program that brings together talented high school students from around the world for a two-week academic experience on the Yale campus. The program offers six, unique interdisciplinary sessions featuring Yale University faculty focused on areas ranging from international security to biomedical engineering.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • To be eligible to receive the Arab Student Leadership Award, students must be citizens of an Arab League country and attend school in the region.
  • They must also complete the financial aid portion of the online application.

Benefits:

  • In an effort to provide this opportunity to more talented students from the Middle East, YYGS will award up to 10 scholarships that will cover the full cost of attending the program, including both tuition and round-trip airfare.
  • The Arab Student Leadership Award will be presented to high school students from the Middle East who demonstrate outstanding qualities in leadership and service in addition to academic excellence.
