This competition is part of the Global Landscapes Forum that will be convened in Paris in December 2015, parallel to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21).

The event will gather more than 2,500 participants from all over the world representing the private sector, NGOs, leading international organizations, government and the general public The online mobilization campaign will reach millions through Twitter, Facebook and the event livestream.

So, what is the role of landscapes in a world where climate change is increasingly pressuring our natural resources?

Eligibility :

  • It doesn’t matter who you are— everybody is welcome to participate. The competition is open to professionals and hobby photographers alike.

There will be 2 prizes:

The audience’s choice

The picture voted as most popular by the online audience will win this prize. Voting will take place on www.landscapes.org and all photographers will receive a direct url to their picture to share it widely with friends and followers.

The picture with the most votes in this category will be announced on Dec 15th, to give the Forum attendees a chance to participate.

The winner of the audience choice will receive a cash prize of USD 1.000.

The jury choice

An international jury (TBA) will evaluate all pictures based on their quality and the relevance to the competition topic (making the connections). Based on their assessment, the jury will select:

  • Winner of the first prize, receiving USD 1,000
  • Winner of the second prize, receiving USD 500
  • Top 20 pictures (including first and second prize winners)
    • Part of the Global Landscapes Forum photo exhibition at the Palais des Congrès, potentially visited by 2,500 people (all pictures will be fully attributed to photographers)
    • Use of one selected picture for the Forum’s selfie wall, part of the social media campaign reaching millions worldwide

The jury will announce the results of the contest starting on the 9th of November 2015.

The photo competition organizers will inform the photographers whose images have been selected for the exhibition.

How to Submit:

To participate, photographers should send the following to [email protected]

  1. Your picture:
    • Please initially submit your picture as .jpg, with a minimum of 1,024 pixels in width (2MB maximum)
      • Kindly note that if your picture is selected among the top 20, we will need the photo as uncompressed .jpg or .tiff file between 150-300 dpi, with a minimum of 3,000 pixels in width – 30 centimeters on the longest side of pictures

  1. Title of the photograph and the photographer’s name should be specified in the .jpg file name (example: jungle – john Smith.jpg)
  2. A short caption describing the place and the subject of your photograph, and a brief background story that explains which aspects you are connecting, and why. Some ideas are:
    • Development— sustainable development goals;
    • Environmental aspects— ecosystem services, biodiversity, wildlife, water management
    • Climate change— greenhouse gas emissions, REDD;
    • Agriculture and food security
    • Indigenous communities
    • Technology — climate action, fracking
    • Others
