2013 DSTV Eutelsat Star Awards for Secondary School Students

Submission Deadline: 19 September 2013.

Enter the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards 2013 and you could win some fantastic prizes. All you need to do is write an essay or design a poster about how satellite technology shapes your world.

The 2013 DSTV Eutelsat Star Awards aim to stimulate interest in science and technology and to inspire innovative thinking among secondary and high school students across the continent.

Topic

Imagine you were allowed to use all the satellites in space. What would you do with them to benefit your community, your country or your continent? Write an essay or design a poster elaborating on three priorities.

Students are encouraged to consult with their science or technology teacher to increase the quality of their entries.

Essays and posters can be written in English, Portuguese or French

 

The Star Awards aim to:

  • Showcase innovative ideas on the application of satellite technology in Africa
  • Create awarness of satellite technology and its applications among African students
  • Stimulate interest in science and technology among young people in schools across Africa

The Prizes

Winning posters and essays from each country will compete for the overall prizes:

Best overall essay: A trip for two to Eutelsat in Paris and onwards to a rocket launch.
Best overall poster: A trip for two to Eutelsat in Paris and a satellite construction facilities.
Runner up overall poster: A trip for two to MultiChoice and the South African National Space Agency at Hartbeesthoek.
Runner essay award: A trip for two to MultiChoice and the South African National Space Agency at Hartbeesthoek.

 

The schools attended by the four overall winners will also receive a DStv installation, including a dish, TV, decoder and free access to the DStv Education Bouquet.

Eligibility and Entry

The Awards are open to students between 14 and 19 years of age in secondary, high or combined schools anywhere in Africa where MultiChoice operates.

Entries can be submitted in English, French or Portuguese.

Judging Criteria

Our panel of judges are looking for innovative thinking and ideas. They will be looking at the following criteria:
